Headphone Recommendations / Opinions

Hi All

I've just moved into a great new flat but I'm worried about making noise here so I'm planning on investing in some new headphones for production duties. I've not got unlimited funds so am after a high quality pair that will enable me to get the job done and not hold me back in mixing / monitoring quality. I'm also going to hook these up with Redline Monitor

I've found the below as possible choices and want to know what ones ppl use and their pro/cons, recommendations!

[EDIT]########

Just an update is anyone is interested, I got myself a pair of K-701, arrived today and I'm very happy.

Overall the sound is controlled atm but I've read extensively that they def need 300+ hours of running to open up. I tried making some small EQ adjustments to some synths and loops running and I was able to hear the changes I made which is all I can ask them for!

One thing though is they're circumaural which I knew but not seen in the flesh, so it was still bit surprise to see the size of them compared to my supraaural hd25s

[/EDIT]]########

Beyerdynamic DT-99

AKG K121 Studio

AKG K-701

AKG K-601

Not sure, but i am also interested to find out.

I can recommend these AKG K 242HD which is the same as 240, and they have a nice price.

evo8
had the akg 241's for a while, never really liked them, switched to Beyerdynamic dt880's...

seems there's a new thread on this every month... i know because i started one a few months ago too :p

akg k240s/242s are the way to go :)
242s are the new versions of the old studio standard k240s.. there's also the k240 MK IIs (which i have) which are the same as the 240s as well, but come with replaceable cables, and headphone pads..

i can vouch for the 240 range though, they're bloody awesome :)

i have akg701's. imo they sound distant.. not upfront, and dont have as much bass as im used to on headphones. although i havent given them the 100 hour break in recommended.
Airbase
I've had the Sennheiser HD650 for a while now, and they are damn good.
I can also recommend the Sony MDR-7506 and the MDR-7509. Also personal favorites of Airwave.

those look good

Beyer
I can vouch for the 701s.. Super detailed, and "honest". My biggest gripe was indeed the "lack" of bass compared to
other phones I´ve used. It´s definitely something you just get used to - as I have. Just make sure to
listen to a lot of music with them, to get to know how they sound. It will come naturally after a while.
I bought a headphone amp to use with them, since they require some juice to operate fully.
I don´t use it very much though, as the output of my tc konnekt 8 is good enough to drive them
well (imo). If you can get the 701s still, that´s what I´d do, even though I haven´t heard the
other akgs. You should be able to find them at reasonable prices now, as the 702 came a while ago.
Sound wise, the 701 are the same as the new 702 supposedly. More or less cosmetic changes only.

you can't go wrong with these
