| don't know if people do this, just randomly popped into my head. is there any pros/cons about having monitors suspended in the air, no stands, just hanging from the ceiling by cable? |

| Wouldn't the bass cause them to move about, kind of defeating the purpose of setting them up in a certain spot at all. |

Not really. I mean speakers can move some air, but monitors are ing heavy.
I think perhaps from a scientific point of view you might have issues from cables structures resonating or the cable itself vibrating whihc could perhaps produce underiable sounds.
Also even though you would have isolated the base of the speaker from the environment (i.e. no desk underneath it) sound would still eminate from that area, maybe adding to reflection problems.
It's an interesting concept that I have wanted to try myself. Recreating the speaker arrays you see at festivals and some clubs. But I don't know enough about the effects and pottential drawback to do it.
You know how it is, it seems like a perfect solution then someone comes along and says "well actually this would happen..." and boom your plaster falls of your ceilong due to harmonic resonance or something. |

I think it goes without saying that speaker position/placement would be just as important when suspended or not. Reflection issues as mentioned above will need to be taken into account, along with all the other stuff. That being said though, if you can get it spot on, then happy days.
On the plus side, extra space (if they were placed on a desk etc) and they would look pretty cool :p. |
