I adore him...and here you are why:
Paul van Dyk is simply A M A Z I N G .
Besides the fact he's one of the most important Trance figure, more than the other well known "tiesto-avb-who elses want", he's constantly improving his mixing skills through the years.
He's not to be considered as the "classic" PC Dj...he's not!!!
He's AN ARTIST while spinning,'cause he always tries to sort out something which could be really unexpected: he studies seriously how to mash this song up with that other song, sometimes adding some vocal samples of a third song too!!! ALL IN ONE!
And this, imo, is definetely NOT easy to be done. He sometimes plays live his tracks, while spinning another track or just pushing out a drumbass line from his Mac. Pc plays the "base" whilst playing melodies with his M audio Midi keyboards.
I mean, he's not anymore a "classic" Djs and he's not anymore to be considered just like "TRANCE DJ". He's actually not that. He's an "all around Dj" who likes to play what he considers GOOD in the EDM scene. No matter if this comes from an elektro techno or a techtrance or an uplift work: EDM. It's all about EDM.
That's also why IMHO one of those few "tranzy" djs appreciated from many other colleagues from the other EDM genres, like Techno or progressive house. He's simply: Paul van Dyk. No one could ever copy his dj style 'cause it's impossible to do if you don't have an ID passport with you named "Mathias Paul from Eisenhuttenstadt". :) |
