So....

I have made the move from cubase and PC over to a mac pro and Logic... still struggling to get my head wrapped around everything. Was just curious if anyone else out there was producing with Logic 8?

I happen to be using both. I just bought logic 8 pro power! And after using ableton for 3 years and getting my feet wet in logic I noticed the terminology is different. Which can be good and bad. it seems logic aims more for sound quality over ableton. Logic has more key shortcuts which you can program (one of its dope ass features). And on logic you have to activate the sync feature in order to have ur sounds in sync (can be cool). Your gonna need more know how on logic if u wanna get good at it so I'd definately recommend buying the logic 8 pro power! Book. (This is coming from a guy who started off producing on ableton).

So far I'm on chapter 4 and I like it but its very detailed. Btw if u don't get ableton well then buy the new ableton power! Book as well. Its very creative.

Hope this helps some.

hmmm... well i bought the logic studio suite so it came with a massive book and some other software as well as logic 8... ive had it about a month now, so yeah lol... slowly working my way toward fluency... last night was an epic battle trying to get a vocal to sidechain itself to a kick... alas no luck yet.

i tried following a youtube tutorial, got half way through, but at one point, i simply didnt have the same options when right clicking

silly, but zomg made me insane lol

thought it might be fun to team up a bit with others who are fighting the same battles ;)

I use Logic 8... love it.

It takes some getting used to. But, you'll like the finished product

I been using Logic for a while and Ableton is very good but once you understand everything Logic can do you will barley use Ableton

Yeah i already know i cant use ableton for anything other than "sketches" so to speak when it comes to vocals... i have ableton 7 on my windows OS (thank you bootcamp lol) but would be good to learn in future...

trying to read the manual etc for logic which is so nice and robust kinda like cubase, though... slightly less intuitive i think for pc users who are accustomed to more menu driven systems (i have to say even photoshop is more like that)

but im curious if there are any other tutorials or good forums... i wish i had some things to take apart lol... i always find im best when im deconstructing someone elses work... i admit that i'm really pushing to get my production skills up to par with Logic because i have soo many ideas right now, but i'm getting frustrated because unlike in the past when i would just pass things along to a producer (despite wanting to do more) i just didnt have a system that was capable of supporting all of that...

now i feel i HAVE to do it because i dropped sooooo much freaking money on a new system lol

yay for scandalous computer splurges!

muahahaha!! ummm yeah lets just say i hear the same shiz from a little bird at vandit ;)

but i think the tools are just totally different... one is meant for more laborious precise work and the other is more fluid and versatile... which makes for amazing live performances as well as its more suited to kind of "sketching" ideas

interesting though... reading more... though seems it degrades into tool talk at the end ;)

Ash, did you buy this from the Apple store? If so, there are live one on one tutorials at the Apple store at Willow Bend. The guy will teach you anything you want to know, just set the appointment and tell him what you want to learn.
