Environment-friendly practices in the office

Everyone at the office has been asked to come up with environment-friendly practices to put in place which will be a part of our performance appraisal this year.

So far I came up with a few obvious ones like using separate bins for garbage and take it to a recycling plant, and recycling paper by printing on the blank side of used documents when they are not very important.

Any other ideas or things that are being done in your offices?

still uses quite a bit of energy. shutting down your computer is the best way to save $$$.

city hall in boston implemented a piece of software that automatically shut down employees computers at night, and they realized savings in the thousands.

report leaking water in the bathroom.

carpool / public transportation / other to work.

put a plant on your desk.

if you bring your lunch to work, reuse plastic baggies. they are really easy to wash.

don't buy bottled water, because people who do are idiots. (assuming you have access to safe tap water).

recycle batteries / old computer parts.

im out of ideas atm.

Default any printers with a duplex unit to double-sided printing.

Recycling seems to have been mentioned many times already, but don't forget about recycling toner cartridges too.

Stop printing every in thing...

None.

My office is unbelievably inefficient and wasteful. It comes with the territory when it's an airline I suppose.

We print everything, several times. I beg my bosses to let me just e-mail stuff but they insist on everything being printed out. We go through about 6 huge boxes of paper per day printing out that doesn't need to be printed. Not to mention I've caught people just dumping blank white paper into the garbage for no apparent reason.

ing offices, no ing sense.
