From a producers point of view the first models are quite fresh; fairly good bass response and mids, a bit loud on the highs and a bit harsh on the extreme high end. I felt like I could judge a mix fairly well on those speakers.
The newer versions sound entirely different for me. Like another world. While the highs remain quite fresh the bass end feels very exaggerated, not tight at all. It seems like bass has been amplified and muffled up up to the lower mids which just isn't right. However, the friend I was referring to in the first paragraph is still very happy having them. In the end it's your own call as everybody has a unique set of ears :).

Thanks Matthijs - that's what I was looking for. Out of interest, did you listen to them in the space or at least in a similar space? Basically, wondering if your friends' environment could be a factor in them sounding so different? |

Unfortunately space could be a factor. Spaces where quite different. Thing is that a couple of producers (some of which I hold in high regard) came to similar comclusions.
I'll try out the Behringers b2031a (with new darker frontplate) and krk rp8 (not sure if it's the g2 or original) coming week in music shop. It's a 300m walk so I can do a fresh comparison, just out of curiousity myself :). Of course this will not affect the old vs new Behringers debate. |

Thanks, but I don't think I need 12 inch woofers for an 11 x 13 x 12 room and I only want to spend ~ $300-400 for the pair. |

I can fully recommend them, i use them for production and when i want to mess around on the decks once in a while, they are really flexible in my humble opinion. |

That's what I thought - and thanks, that would be great if you could do that! :) The old ones still had their own faults too, but what I'm trying to determine is if they still have that value to performance ratio with their new faults. Basically if the new "faults" have runied them. |

Go with the Truths..
Best bang for your buck and they sound awesome.
I know guy who has made listening/studio rooms that uses only Genelecs and even he likes the Truths as a less costly alternative.
I have a pair for my DJ equipment.
I like them so much I actually bought another 6 and use them for my 6.1 surround sound room.
