Samples vs. Synths

For Example: Trying to make a simple bell sound with some additive waves... sounds OK, but not like very similar sounding bell and chromatic drum sounds out of a sampler.

When making a similar percussive or short decay type sound (perhaps not sustained) as found in a sampler... go with a more genuine sounding sample, or make the synth?

I assume samples all come stocked well mixed and mastered so they sound as good as they ever could. But even with simple sounds, I feel like I should at least try and make synth analogues.

Do what sounds good, whether synth or sample. There is no right or wrong about where you source your sounds from, its up to whether it sounds good or not.

Maybe you can try and layer them, than you'll have your own sound ;)
