My girlfriend's cousin won a singing contest yesterday, which gave as a "grand prize" the right to participate in the "World Championships of Performing Arts". To be honest, I never heard of this before and it's got "scam" written all over it. I spotted it a mile away, but it's not that obvious to them.
His parents (who are struggling financially) now have to come up with more than $4,000 in "entrance fees, accommodation (you HAVE to stay where they tell you), photo sessions", etc. so he can actually go and participate. They don't have the money and I think they will probably take a loan or sell some of their to be able to pay for it, all to make their son happy.
I'm trying to prove to them that it's all a big, ing scam but haven't been able to find anything specific on the internet. Only some info on two other "contests" that operate in pretty much the exact same way and this.
Do you guys know anything about this? |
