Memorial day weekend hotels in Socal

hey guys and gals, me and my wife are heading down to socal this memorial weekend.
i used to live there but dont know any good hotels to stay. can you recommend any????
we prefer most likely near the L.A. area or Glendale area or near Universal studios may be?
cheap or not just like to see the good spots.

i got a good deal at the LA Palomar near the getty for the weekend after. 4 star, high rankings on tripadvisor(5 of 263) for $123.00. they offer a complimentary wine hour each evening and their loyalty program is really good(7 stays = 1 free night)
