new appreciation of minimalist trance

I have recently begun to dig into the realm of minimalist stuff and simply am a drummer at heart, played since I was 3yrs old so I appreciate rhythm so I am wondering from anyone more versed in whats out there, what are some minimalist tracks with either really sick (meaning good, funky etc) beats or baselines. I love great rhythm parts whether base or drums , even piano is a percussion instrument technically. Any thoughts ?

Like children?

Wtf is 'minimalist trance'? Am I behind the times?

hehe um I guess just search the term 'minimalist' on youtube and sample a bunch of stuff to get the idea. Not sure what to say . Minimal is a concept better left to music than words IMHO

'Minimal' describes something entirely different to trance.

Mmmm if u consider "minimalist" everything with a Kick+1hi hat+a little melody sometimes.... well I even don't consider that Trance...

Btw, something lovely to be reminded in the "deep" smooth side of Trance could be Madoka Vira Two remix to Pole folder's track called "Protected" if I'm not wrong with the name.. that's a sort of "minimal voyage" in the sense that the aren't so much instruments, fx etc in it..

Uh... no. Trance is built up in a monotonous and repetitive way, introducing only a few or no new elements through a longer period of the song. That's what minimalism is all about, if you're looking for a simple answer.

Edit: Redd posted an excellent example of this. Good job.

Oh that original definition of trance is completley lost on today's generation, spoon fed with supersaws, ultra mega breakdowns of several minutes and over-the-top-instant-gratification melodies :)

On the topic at hand though. I think I remember a similar question being asked and some nice examples from Zoo Brazil appeared as You Tube clips...can't seem to find them right now however...

There is minimalist trance, it was played by tiesto and AVB @ ultra in miami on the main stage. Its like trance with that blip blop bleep crap n da background lol...

Wow, I've seriously been away for way too long... minimalist trance?? What's next?!

I seriously need to check it out.. I am open to almost any change :D

There's no such thing as minimalist trance, or even mininal trance. If you define trance as you've just described, then it's a redundant tag anyway.
