From Southern Cal. circa Jan. 2008, 150 tents, ~350 'residents', no power, two garden hoses for water.
Recomended viewing, not listening. The soundtrack is over the top depressing violin music. It's a good effect but plays too much on those heart strings.

some people in california are weird enough to want to live in tents regardless. on a serious note, california had a serious homelessness problem way before this economic downturn. Santa Monica State Beach is virtually a homeless shelter, as are many parts of san francisco (i.e., union square & civic center). I'm sure other california cities have similar problems. The fact that homeless people are now forming tent cities is not really noteworthy in my mind. I would rather they form tent cities than hang out in front of my building. |

Thanks for making that note.
All good points and things that I'd never know about otherwise. |

LOL, it does look like my reply could have been sarcastic. It wasn't, I just started looking into this today. The only other thing I'd seen on it was a few pictures from some of the news papers (NY Times I think). |
