Oakenfold was one of the many pioneers in electronic music; that is a fact we all know. He found the baeleric sound in Ibiza and brought it back to the UK. In 1999, he toured the world with Radio 1 and played some of the best music sets at the time.
Now, with his fame, Oakenfold releases movie soundtracks, more compilations, and even his own album. However, most of this stuff is crap. There is nothing wrong with him being a good businessman, but at least release something with quality. |

he is NOT a very good dj
and he is NOT a pioneer
people who say this make me laugh...
yeh hes done his bit for the scene BUT just because he opened the UK's eyes to 'trance' dont mean all... it was already there... Oakey got into it about 10 years late. The real pioneering was done in Germany by artists like Sven Vath following on from Kraftwerk.
Oakey has done his bit...but he is so overrated its not funny!
*and he still cant even beatmatch! |
oakie is a business man...?..... you show me one man hoo aint a business man and ill shake your hand..... aint such a thing a as a DJ who dosnt want to line his/her pockets.. or why would they charge so much?
and as for him not being a pioneer.... you think its cos of the likes od kraftwerk and sven vath that oakie has his sound now....... erm.. NO. me thins not... everyone contributes in their own way.., maybe kraftwerk has helped oakie to achieve what he has now.... but oakie has added his own taste to what he has now.
music varied in different countries... example...... german techno and italian techno.... 2 differnt sounds. but they still classed as techno. lets say that perhaps.. picotto opened italys eyes to techno.... 5 years later than it was intriduced to germany.. picotto may have listened to the german techno, and added his own flavour to it.. and turned it into italian techno.
the way i see it... you can either be a trend setter, or a trend follower.... oakie. (even tho i dont like him). is a trend setter.. he brought the scene to us.. and you should be thankful for that... he has brought his own taste of trance and gave us his own vision of how trance/dance music should be. Like it or not. hes doing a damn fine job.. and just because he aint your favourite DJ, doesnt give you the right to slag him off.......
..... i think PvD is wank.. but i dont slag hi off all the time, just deal with it!
oh, and btw..... im not sure if you noticed that not many people like you on this board, so why dont you save your opinions for the lapdogs on the GC board.. where no-one knows , and get your apraisals from there |

So you wouldn't do movie soundtracks if you were offered??, hell doing a film soundtracks puts you up with the big boys :p
His Album is good, it's not just one style of music, which is a definate good thing, cos thats what Oakies about, but as the Singles from Bunkka are released they'res gonna be some remixes that will float your boat. I'm still caning the trailer trash mix of Ready Steady Go..top tune :) |

/me is hearing Paul Oakenfold live @ Lotherton Hall...
Over-rated my ass :)
I know what I like, and thats pretty much every Oakie track I've ever heard (with exception to 'bites da dust'..too much weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed)
But it's you thats dissing him, so what have you contributed to the dance scene in the past 20 years?? apart from ill founded opinions?? :p |

The quality in his mixes, the tracklistings, the originality, the atmosphere he creates are outstanding. His productions are quality again, his remixes are excellent, in the time that he's been in the business he's very rarely made a bad tune. Also he's not just stuck to one genre, he's flowed between styles with relative ease, something which other DJ's haven't done as easily. He's got real talent at what he does, and succeeds at whatever he tries his hand at next, and because he changes his style so often, u never get bored of him :) |
and of course
this would be why 60% of an Oakey set today would be indentical to an Oakey set from 1998 :haha:
Oakey is the best at what he does.. $$$ most commercialy succesful DJ in the world.
hes got you lot sucked in! |

bites da dust is James Holden :conf: yeh

compare oakey with me.

i like a bit of variety and a dj who can actually mix..
still
each to their own! :haha: |

erm.... he is a poor DJ, but he is good at making monney.... hmm. am i the only one who see's a problem with this comment?.... ya know the reason why he makes money?..... because people love his werk, because he is a great DJ and a great producer. that is the silliest comment ive heard this year.
I admit, i dont like oakey, but i can appreciate good werk when i hear it, and i think that that is one thing that you need to learn to do my friend... dont slag off stuff just beause you dont like it... be critical of sumthing because it deserves criticism. So for now, why dont you do yourself a favour and learn about differnt styles of dance/trance music.. and then come back and give me/us a decent argument about sumthing that is werth arguing about. your opinion and the truth are 2 different things... alls we are seeing right now are your opinions... so please dont argue about things that you have no justification for.
oh,, and btw... what a reply.... see, you really do not know what your talking about, because you didnt give me a constructive answer. so off trying to get on peoples nerves.. cos it will only last for so long until you are banned |
