So my girlfriends car got TOTALLY ed up by a drunk driver while we were sleeping last week. Her car is a total write off! ing crash woke me up on the 10th floor of my building!
Atleasts the chick ed up her own car enough that she couldn't drive away and we watched her get arrested by the cops.
So we almost bought a car today, a 2002 Mazda Protege 5, sick car, looked nice everything, but it fell through because it was some 20 year old selling it but was pretty much on strict command by his father who we never met. Long story short, kid was too afraid to make a decision by himself and we are left car-less for the weekend as the rental went back today. No deal.
So now we're in deep need of a vehichle. Still considering a Protege 5, but we really like the Mazda 3's as well. I see Downsview Auto has a good selection, and we're making our way down there tomorrow. But if anyone has a good suggestion on where to look at cars lemme have it. Yes, I've checked autotrader. Rather a private sale to save on taxes, but whatever.
Thanks
Here's what happened to her car. It was 1 car lenght behind where it is now in the pic!!

Hardtimes. Try RepoDepot. They reposes cars that people cant afford or will have the banks or creditors take away from them.
Or try local car auctions as well. You can even see the line up of cars before they are auctioned off. Even have your mechanic look at them before bidding on it.
My buddy was also hit by a drunk driver last weekend. He was waiting to turn left at a light and a drunk driver ran the red and then hit him on the front fender. luckily he and his brother were okay... if she hit him on the driver side door, he would be have been t-boned at 60km. |

MAN I'm jealous...
I wish some drunk would smash into my car and write it off...Then I wouldn't have to bother with trying to sell it...
I just bought a Touareg today and have to store my Golf...
Mazda 3 is a great car...I highly recommend it...
If you wanna take over my lease till October, you can have mine...338 a month...
Or maybe she'd like a Golf VR6???? |

| Most of Downsview Auto's cars are from Quebec... beware of these salty cars! Also beware of dealers in that area who don't let you take it to your mechanic before you buy. That area is notorious. |

I did extensive research in the protege 5 and 3, as well as many others in the class. In my opinion, the 5 is a good car with some significant weaknesses:
Bad tranny. Look it up.
Bad rear quarter rust issues.
Aside from that, the protege has been known to be reliable and a good solid car for the money. Also really love the hatch feature.
3?
Great chassis - based on the volvo s40. Good engine, much nicer than many others in the class. Not so good for pricing thought.
Whatever you do, just stay away from the Cobalt/ G5 - been into the dealership 13 times under warranty, and now that Im out, I've already spent over 700 dollars on repairs.
I would look in Kijiji and Craigslist. You'll be able to negotiate first hand and do cash dealings.
I just picked up a 2004 Matrix AWD, thank god - so much better in so many ways. |

i loved my mazda 3. I had the 2004.....BUT.....that car gave me the most problems from the cars that i've owned.
I replaced the engine at 55,000 km while it was under warranty and then it gave me more problems again at 95,000km.
Engine needed to be replaced again but i sold it before i actually needed to spend the cash on it (no longer under warranty obviously)
Im not saying dont buy the 3. Just giving you a head's up. |
