in Cubase you can only record one track at a time

Not sure if troll or just retarded.

1. For production (excluding live use), Cubase can do way more than Ableton. This isn't opinion, it's fact; more plugins, score editing, pitch correction, more wave editing functions, etc.

2. Cubase records as many tracks as you want, just like any other DAW that isn't a complete pile of .

...and this is coming from someone who uses Ableton as their main DAW.

That's the stupidest thing I've read on this forum in years...and, believe me, that's saying something.

There has been a great surge recently in people posting 'facts' on internet forums on subjects they know literally all about.

Is that a fact, or did you just make that up? :p

For recording and editing audio it is indeed superior.
Its just a lot of things that just require way to many clicks and windows to open.
And the new mixer, i don't like it!

I see a lot of people saying that. What is it about that people hate so much? I haven't used C7.

Mainly because has an unattractive design and too many features and buttons at once, and the useless 'Channel Strip' is all over it.

But, X3 has been rock-solid and definitely some major improvements, including the Melodyne ARA. I already had the full Melodyne Editor (polyphonic), so I don't use the included version of Melodyne, but the integration is f'ing awesome - it's implemented much better and more seamlessly in Sonar than it is in Studio One.

Comping is much improved in X3, the new track colors are really cool for organizing projects, the new Take Lanes are excellent, the new plugins (Addictive Drums, Lounge Lizard Session, Strum Session, Nomad Factory, Tone2 BiFilter2) are worth the upgrade price alone IMO, if you have a need for them, that is. It also supports VST3 now, and VST3s have much better organization in the Browser. If you use the ProChannel much (you should if you're not), the new QuadCurve EQ is really cool and the new Tape Emulation is also excellent. The cool thing about the Tape Emulator and other console fX built into the ProChannel is that, unlike plugins, you can easily instantiate and adjust them on all channels simultaneously - makes for a very efficient workflow.

So, yeah, $70 for the upgrade is a no-brainer IMO.

I have a couple of questions I hope you can answer...

I'm still on Sonar X2, and I'm probably going to upgrade anyways because I found out that they fixed a bug where if you have 2 or more vst's w/midi out enabled, Sonar will crash.

I hate the Matrix View. Does it suck any less? I've never been able to make it work right, not once. I hate the time it takes for me to prepare an idea so it can drop all these little midi loops into the cells. I also can't stand how it's kinda independent from the sequencer, but not really...

Also, if you take a 1 measure step sequencer clip, and extend it to a 4 measure pattern (but not bounce after extending) in the arrangement/track view or what ever it's called (alt + 1) and you want to edit the last beat of the 4th measure. I normally split the clip at the last beat. Do you still have to right click and select "unlink step sequencer clips"???

These last two things are probably the things that piss me off the most about Sonar. Especially having to take these extra steps to unlink clips after splitting so you can edit them. If I wanted them to be linked, I wouldn't be splitting them, now would I?

It just makes me love my MPC, and Geist that much more... Just the dope , w/none of the bull.

I've opened the Matrix View maybe five times total in the 10 years I've been using Sonar. It just doesn't fit my workflow, so I don't use it. Sorry, can't help there. The step sequencer OTOH is one of my favorite features of Sonar.

It's implemented the same way in X3. It makes sense the way it's implemented because they're all just reiterations of the same SS pattern. I agree that it would be nice to have that as an option, but Sonar would have to know which side of the split clip to unlink, otherwise you could really f*** up your track if you start editing a clip that is used throughout your project. I assigned a keybinding to mine that lets me just split the clip, select the one I want unlinked, and hit one keystroke to unlink it.
