Just played around with Live 8 for a while, and since I use Live for DJing, I'm very bitter about the new version.
The thing I really don't like is the entire warping area. The new way to warp is time consuming and really not good when you need to warp something on the fly. I can see the new warp engine will be useful for producers, but it doesn't help out DJs at all.
This is only my first impression, I might go back and have another go at it but right Live 7, it takes me > 30 to warp a track and I'm good to go. I really don't see that happening with 8.
I also hate how the waveform display is just a big block. You can really see where the track is going when you're zoomed out all the way because it's just a big ing rectangle. Big mess up there, huge!
Again, for production, from what I've seen this has a lot of new features that are going to be extremely useful -- but I feel like they left out DJs in this release. |

| I think they are going to try and balance this out with the Ableton + Serato partnership |

| actually, i didn't like it as well, but i got used to it. it's much more accurate now that i think about it |

| Never used Ableton but am definitely thinking about picking up a copy to use with Logic for production...lots of interesting looking features. |

| I haven't used 8 just yet, but I'm kinda put off if they've drastically changed how to warp tracks. Keen to have a look and try it though. |

the new version of ableton is bomb!!!!
i guess reactions vary because I absolutely love the new version... not only does it sound warmer than 7 but the looper is insane... not to mention it runs much better on the latest version of os x
and the new warping engine just takes some getting used to... warp 10 songs and I promise you it'll click! |

| Just recently purchased the VCM600. Great mixer but the Live 7 LE that came with it is really restricting. I think I'll be upgrading to 8 pretty soon after all. |

| Yep. 8 is gr8! The new warping is a piece of piss to grasp. Really didn't take long to get used to. All the other new fearures are bomb too! Only thing I'm missing at all is the timeline along the waveform which really doesn't make sense at all to remove if you ask me. |
