Something (Rough draft)

Hey guys, almost finishing up this project. please listen and enjoy. feedback welcome :)

Nice, nice start.

The bass-tone during the break is a bit heavy - consider shelving and adding a different synth, layered, one octave up, in unison.

I think everything past the first part of the song can be developed further, but you needn't alter anything radically.

The mix, overall, is very imbalanced, at this point, but it's a rough draft.

The first part of the song, sounds the best, so far as mix, music, and instrumentation are concerned.

Great job on the re-launch.

Looking forward to the finished version.

Unison is when you have two or more elements playing the same notes. It's sometimes referred to as layering. With bass-lines, I usually start with a saw-tooth synth that is higher. I track the MIDI for it, copy it to another track, then transpose the copy down one octave (12 semitones) and put a square-tooth or sine-wave synth to fill out the low end.

Using this technique, I can give the bass some mid-range presence and some of that low-end oomph. Without the synth in the lower octave, bass-lines can sound anemic. If it's missing a higher octave tone, they can sound muddy. To borrow a phrase from Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Bears, the sound you're looking for is "Just Right" :)

haha. i will try that out! my target for the bassline is to like have a deep feel to it. then out of no where the Synth melody comes out.
now for my second body... i have to think about it some more. I'm not too satisfied with it.

Take your time with it and don't force it. It should come naturally.

Take care.

oh yeah, well I am using sylenth1 so could i just use the first osc as a saw tooth keep it at O octave. then for my second osc i would make it square or sine and make it go down 1 octave right?

I've done that with a few of mine. I always wind up layering something under that, as well, but you definitely have the right idea.
