Anybody have some recs on good sources for free AND pay for kick samples to work in progressive house/breaks/trance?
Lolo
you can make them on your own.

yes please, a kick tutorial is always nice

especially how to get from that sinewave plop towards that superthick stabby oomphhhh
and personally i would like to know how you get the klicky transients in the kick (snap) so it still is audible on earbuds (what samples or techniques do you use? since i am never able to get layers to allign really tight and play nice together)layering other precussion sounds often still sound like ehhhmmm layering percs sounds :D i really would like to know how to glue it together beyond low/high cut

Search for the infected mushroom kick tutorial.

I guess you are shooting your video right now ;)..

I recently started making them from scratch, to explain it simple. I take a nice attack of a sampled kick (only the attack, cut off the rest). Layer it with Bazzism, eq them both so they seem 'one', and compress them together.

But I'm sure Laurent will come up with a very nice video :)

So the fron is a sample and the tail is a generated sinus?
no layering going on? I would love to find out how to get those thick Simon Patterson like kicks.

Was that where you explained it via FM synthesis?

Can you link me? I was looking for that again a while ago lol.

Yea, I took a quick look at the tutorial by Dave West and other stuff in stick and I understand how to take various drum samples and layer them together to isolate attacks, reinforce body etc.

Wanted to see if anyone knew some really good source material though. I have a few Vengeance kicks that are nice.

Also someone has said in the past on this forum (search) to avoid making kicks with synths altogether because it will cause endless hours of frustration. Just take existing samples that have what you want and customize/layer to your liking.

That said, have found some DECENT ones with FM8 presets... never was able to make anything decent in Massive.

I would love to be able to make a good kick with a synth because ideally I would want to create everything from scratch... is it possible to do that standalone without reinforcing with another sample? What's the best synth for that?
