Yeah, in that case, you're right; Audi got nothin' in the same class.
I really wish the S5 had a little more to it in order to not only make for a decent M3 rival, but to justify the absurd sticker price.

agreed. BMW's response is still funny. :clown:

...especially because it seemed like Audi felt they had scored some pwnage.
Definitely epic. :D

lower end BMWs have ty interior. even the X5 and new 3 series. blah
but i'm sure they drive great. i would take bmw over audi any day. audi just reminds me of my VW...over engineered and high maintenance once you put some real miles on it.

Actually, the RS-4 amounts to a suitable M3 competitor, though I think it may be more aimed at the 5 series than anything else; but certainly not the M5.
Feels like its in sort of a no-man's land. It looks as if it was made to go up against the 5 series, but not it's top of the line model. It can put up a fight against the M3, but it doesn't seem like it was intended to actually do that (not lately, at least).
Still, though, let's assume they didn't have anything that was intended to go directly toe-to-toe with the M3; just because you don't have something that competes in a certain class, doesn't mean you should reach for the next class up and drop it into the bracket. If you don't have it, you don't have it.
how was the RS4 aimed at the 5 series?? That makes no sense
RS4 is in the same class as the M3 as is the new C63 AMG

VW tries to pass itself off as the Honda of German cars, but really, they're not that cheap.
After you pick one up with a variety of options, you're better off just saving up for a little while longer and getting yourself something nicer.
Not to mention their really inconsistent reliability record.

I was looking at it just now in terms of invoice, but other than that, you're right, they're really not in the same category.
For some reason, I just head it in my had for a while that it was meant to be Audi's response to the five series. :conf:

I also remember watching Top Gear with them testing the C63 vs. the RS-4 vs. the M3; and Top Gear generally does a good job of keeping the competition level.
