the annual Billabong XXL awards are coming up this Friday where they give out an award for biggest wave of the year, ride of the year, biggest paddle-in wave of the year and a few other categories. These are the nominees for biggest wave of the year. Who do you think takes it?

Axi Munian @ Belharra, France

Grant Baker @ Tafelberg Reff, South Africa

Mark Matthews @ Cow Bommie, Australia

Damien Warr @ Cow Bommie, Australia

Benjamin Sanchis @ Belharra, France

i couldn't agree more... those waves look mammoth!

it's kind of tough to tell which one is the biggest... all of them are jaw-droppers.

i dont know anything about surfing but all those guys are friggin sick! i wish i had the balls to do that.

if i had to pick one of those, i'd pick the 2nd one
zizack
yeah, I think Grant's (2nd one) is the probably the biggest, although not by that much.

That really takes a lot of balls.

I almost drowned last year due to swimming like an idiot at the end of the day after surfing whole day with storm waves....
EliPsE
they must be super confident to ride those:nervous:

some past year's winners....

I think the Guiness record went to Pete Cabrinha for his 2004 ride at Jaws. They measured it at 70 ft.

2001
Mike Parsons @ Cortez Bank, CA

2003
Makua Rothman @ Jaws, Hawaii

2004
Pete Cabrinha @ Jaws, Hawaii

2005
Dan Moore @ Jaws, Hawaii

2006
Brad Gerlach @ Todos Satos, Mexico

It all started with Laird and doing tow-ins...and having the board strapped on..I think the guys on the wave runners should get an award,lol...Mavericks will always rule in my book

I know in many cases, the winners do split their prize money with their tow partners.

and yeah, it pretty much all started with Laird. The guy is insane.
