Make sure you turn on "PS1 upscaling" in the PS3 options menu. It can upscale PS1 games all the way to 1080P which removes lots of the jaggies. It should smooth things out in FF7, especially the summons. ;)

So, apparently FF13 isnt as good as most of us hoped it would be.

The whole game is completely linear until halfway through [approximately 20 hours].

There are hardly any towns.

The party is always fixed. The whole game just repeats the movie-battle sequence over and over [In fact the progression is closer to movie-run-battle-run-movie-boss-movie-run-battle…].

There are rather a lot of movies.

Moving around is like a long marathon.

The whole game system is just a clone of FF10.

You can’t flee battles [You can’t avoid most battles either as there is no sneaking past enemies, including weak ones].

Your party is completely healed after each battle.

If the main character in your party dies it is game over [There are only ever 3 characters in battle, often less, and often fixed].

The best tactic is almost always endlessly attacking. There is next to no strategy or skill involved.

The summons’ transformation scenes are a joke [i.e. Odin turning into a horse].

The story is rubbish… [Spoilers omitted, but complaints centre on Snow’s constant and cringe inducing insistence that he is a hero and will “protect” whatever it is the antagonists are menacing this time]

Shopping is only done at “online” shops on save points, with no proper shops to be found.

However, this doesn’t matter as you hardly ever get any money [and you can never buy anything more powerful than what you already looted].

There have been next to no changes from the demo.

The status screen displays no real information.

There are only 8 items usable in combat [For that matter, there are hardly any weapons or accessories, and the “crafting” system mostly consists of spending drops to upgrade their 2 stats].

There are no levels.

Guess i wont be playing it after all.

there are no levels?

I dont get that as well...will have to see what people say when it comes out in the usa and europe, but so far im not excited about just watching one cutscene after another, even if some would claim that that is just what jrpgs are.

I'm not really into RPG's, but all of that sounds pretty retarded. Not exactly the recipe for a good game.

Im not too impressed by what im reading on the reviews, but again, im not much for the final fantasy series since 6. I will play XIV since I have a bunch of buds that we play multiplayer games with.

I'm curious how this game got a high score from Famitsu. So curious that it negates my disgust at everything Mongoose posted. First day purchase (already pre-ordered!)

If they tossed everything out the windows for XIII, I wonder what XIV brings.

JRPS.

now dont get me wrong, i loved the old shining & phantasy star games. when i was 12.

FF games went severely downhill after 7, when the fanbase became significantly composed of anime fans, rather than gamers.

7 had its flaws, but 8 was simply a ing joke. Lousy battle system, ridiculous story, retarded characters. 9 had its moments, and 10 was just as bad as 8. 12 was actually pretty good, but it looks like Square has thoroughly jumped the shark with 13. At least 8 had a killer Nobou soundtrack.

Square just needs to fire their game progammers and become a movie studio like they apparently want to be. If I wanted to play a game with 20 hours of GC and 7-8 of gameplay, then I'd just go play MGS4.
