Edit: I think a mainstream club is not only popular with clubbers but popular with a variety of different kinds of clubbers which attend on a regular basis.

so basically you're saying that guv is a mainstream club.
since there are so many rooms and each room draws its own clientel on a regular basis. also, all the big clubs that you read about in djmag and mixmag around the world are considered "mainstream". guv, being toronto's version of those clubs, would be considered mainstream as well, no?

So do your point earlier "any music a mainstream club plays becomes mainstream music", than any house or trance played at Guv you would consider mainstream?

Or just certian styles?

It has to be more individual track related....if a track is played, and not just once but repeatedly over a period of time, then you can make a case that it becomes a mainstream track because of the play it gets in a mainstream club.

Ok, I can see your point here to a degree with it being track related. I play a lot of the same tracks at Guv that I play at CZ, but only during certian times, while there are tracks that I play at Guv that I would never play at CZ...

i still remember when they announced that johan gielen would be a quarterly resident or something like that.

also heard one of the best sets at republik when dumonde played there.

I remember that too. I was so looking forward to going to Republik, but never got a chance since they switched formats.

Circa is still doing 4/4 events on saturdays. they've got chris lake coming in a couple of weeks..

JEDI is not a hip hop DJ either. He's a mash up DJ and plays LOTS of house. Though i've not been to circa on a saturday to check him, i wouldn't be surprised if he played mostly house in the main room as other rooms already have hip hop and mash up.

He plays thursdays at toi bar with tasc who is another "hip hop & mash up DJ" and they play strictly house on that night.
