The labels I had in mind were people like Kompakt, Ostgut Tontranger and Cocoon, or Blue Tunes, Iboga, HOM-Mega, Doof, Twisted etc. Mainstream labels didn't even enter my mind in regards to this conversation, simply because I have no interest in supporting them and because I don't like any of the material on their labels anyway. |
No doubt those are good labels. And I commend them for their quality, but that doesn't detract from the other labels that we have to put up with for other genres. So much is released, so much oversight over artists being *GHASP* artists. Bull obviously, but how else do we not support this ty business relationship without stealing the music?

see above.

It doesn't for me, but I can respect it does for others. To each their own. :) |

Seriously. I love FLAC so much. My buddy gave me his iPod mini he didn't want. I loaded rockbox on it today and boy am I glad. Now I just need a 32gb CF card. Flash based mp3 player for $80 and it plays all the formats you can throw at it! :) |
dude that was a few months ago. Quit being a slacker and get the card :tongue2 As for FLAC, agree 100% I love the format and ease of converting, and best of all it's open source! |

I flat out disagree with this. I understand your reasoning behind it, but there are alternatives to the total stuff that is distributed. Uncompressed PCM wav is too large, but FLAC, or ALAC even, are VERY good alternatives. Especially FLAC since it supports 24bit 96Khz audio for the HD audio and is royalty free since it is open source and licensed under the GPL. Nine Inch Nails does this. Their "The Slip" album I downloaded direct from their website in 96Khz/24bit FLAC. It is beautiful. So clear, clean, and bit perfect to what you would buy on cd. In fact, it is HIGHER quality than what you would buy on cd. |
Buy tracks on vinyl? :p
(only saying that for sport - not looking to get into the whole digital vs. vinyl show lol) |

I know, but I never stumbled on a decently priced iPod mini. I randomly asked my buddy a month or so ago, and he said he had one. He just had to copy some songs from it to his mums new one. It took him forever. lol |

I love vinyl, but this is where HD Audio pretty much mimics the way vinyl sounds imho. |

If HD audio mimicks vinyl, why not buy vinyl?
I know you don't have the answers, and there's fewer artists investing in pressing vinyl...it's just sad nonetheless.
Anyways, the internets allowed me to see Faster & Furiouser 4 without being robbed of my money. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't good lol. |

I love vinyl and always will. I have probably around 400 in my collection, with lots of rare pressings that I was lucky enough to track down. Problem is the quality isn't always there. I have pressings that sound phenomenal, and then I have several that sound god awful and can't even be played out! I payed quite a bit for these, and when u get ed a bunch of times due to pressings, it wears on ya. With digital, and nothing less than 320 mp3 which I hardly ever use (wav/FLAC mainly) you know u always get quality and it's soooo much cheaper.
Add to the fact they don't wear out, easier to lug around, and no cart replacements. ugh oh I may be going down that road after all, lol.:haha: |

1. Some people don't really want the physical stuff, they just want the audio. You can thank (and I don't mean this sarcastically) the instant gratification that piracy brings you for this.
2. No. Vinyls are making a comeback. I can't remember if they have already, but there could be a day where Vinyls outsell CDs again.
I don't want to give you one link, I want you to see the entire picture of this phenomenon:

There are plenty of reasons for preferring Vinyls over CDs. Some artists/labels put free coupons for HQ digital downloads of the music inside of the Vinyl sleeves now, so it's a win/win in terms of getting physical format and high(er) quality audio than CDs. |

I think it's safe to say that this will never happen. Still too many bad pressings, big clunky equipment, takes up too much space in an age where small size with huge storage amounts are dirt cheap. Can't compete with Serato and the ease of cataloging tracks with just a few clicks of a mouse. |

Are you serious?
If CDs rapidly decline in popularity,
Vinyl manufacturers are ramping up production,
and the market shrinks, then essentially... vinyls will outsell CDs.
We won't see platinum vinyls, but if most artists these days are not even going double construction paper with their CDs and a bunch of collectors are trying to bring back vinyl, then vinyl sales will surpass CDs.
See my point? If 50,000 vinyls are bought compared to 30,000 CDs... then vinyls have outsold CDs. |

| Oh God, not the whole medium debate again. How many times has this been done now? Every debate seems to be exactly the same, with everybody staying with their own opinion the whole way through. Might as well just save yourselves some time and... stop. |
