Your tips for job hunting (pg. 5)

Having finished my degree, i went travelling and learnt very quickly that money has very little to do with having a good time in your life.

Don't get me wrong I'm not some hippy, dope smoking hallelujah freak, I'm aware money can alleviate many problems. But some people who earn loads have no time to enjoy the smaller things in life.

For example a lot of nurses i know work because they love the work not the 12 hour shifts that come with working in the hospitals.

Finding something you have passion for is the key to succeeding. It's when you happen to earn a good salary on top of this that things become really fun.

Ok I'm waffling a bit now.. But priorities for me changed big time after I went travelling for 16 months during '06-'07.

Depending on where you got your license, yes. ;)

I suppose we're underpaid. My salary as an RN will be capped at just over 70 000 a year. But to me that's a lot of ing money, more than I need to live comfortably, that's for sure. And I don't even intend to stop after that. I can probably make up to 80-90 000 once I have my master's....more as a primary care practitioner.

Is that in USD?

That is extremely ing far from underpaid.

Generally speaking nursing is not a profession that is highly paid. Not in ireland and the UK anyway.

It's not underpaid but you work bloody hard for the Salary you get (again over this side of the water)

Same with being an MD or a PhD. You get paid well, but you work all the ing time, so you deserve the money.

Exactly..
It basically brings up that great saying,

'Some people work to live, others live to work...'

Depends what your priorities are, and the grass is always greener. By that i mean someone who's always working and earns a load of cash will be jealous of their friends who travel the world but live on a lot less and work y jobs until they can afford to travel to the next city for their next adventure and visa versa..

Lol. I don't even have to work full time to earn that. ;)

I never said you did but my closest cousin is a nurse and is going for her masters now so I have a good idea of what they get paid.

The money hungry nurses always go to the States when they graduate here...but that's not why I do it. Plus, the States, lol.

A bunch of them probably don't exist either. Just keep that in mind.
