To be honest, most of the time when i fly, i fall asleep before the plane even takes off. next thing i know, i'm either in mid-air, or i'm landing at said destination.

then of course you get to your spot and you're sitting there, waiting and waiting to get off the plane. and that damn old lady is going SO ING SLOW....so you finally get passed her; and then its more waiting to get your bags. and nothing is quite as boring as watching other people's luggage go by....maybe boiling water. i dunno. i try not to do either.

Airport security can suck my left nut. The day I was told that, even though the small water bottle was CLEAR, the liquid inside was CLEAR and you could see directly through it, I needed to place a water bottle through the x-ray machine "so that it [could] be examined for safety reasons" was the day that I lost all faith in the FAA.

I take it this happened before August 2006. You oan't get water bottles past security now, opened or unopened.

Yes, about a year before the whole "liquid explosive" bull.

Edit: Show of hands, does anybody feel safer flying than they did when the rules were far more relaxed?

I only had my school purse with me since my boyfriend flew an earlier flight to miami with my luggage... I completely forgot I had my water bottle inside.

I was like doh SORRY! throw it away.

Nice.

Last time I was in DTW I bought a day pass there for $50. My connection was cancelled and the line to rebook was half way down the terminal, whereas the line for customer service inside the worldclub lounge had about five people in it. Definitely one of the better $50 I've spent...

I get free lounge access when I fly and it makes a big difference. Somewhere quiet to chill out with a beer, some snacks and the internet. Some lounges you can get a free massage, very nice and relaxing before a longhaul.

I had a flight last year that was delayed 8hrs at JFK, a rolling tech delay and actually found it quite relaxing thanks to the lounge. Had time to catch up on the internet, enjoy some free beers and food and watch all the activity on the apron outside. Sure I'd rather have been spending time in Chicago but for hanging around in the airport it wasn't so bad.

If you travel enough the elite status perks make flying rather pleasant; priority check-in, security lines, boarding, lounge access, preferred seating etc. etc.

I don't know for absolute certain, but I can't imagine why they would not have integrated a conveyor belt that only does x-ray scans, but detect scents of explosive material.
I mean, you couldfill your bottle of water, put in a quarter spoon for C(CH2ONO2)4, shake it until it saturates and the water looks completely normal. Once on the plane, go to the bathroom, take out the bathroom lightbulb and use it as a furnace, cook the water bottle until the explosive clay forms on the bottom of the bottle. Then cut out the electrical wire from the light bulb fixture, attach it to an open switch for your makeshift bomb.

Why exactly do you need water up there, buddy? You sound kinda suspicious to not relinquish your bottle of the most abundant resource on earth.
