Confusing. On one hand, the song's structure and the way it builds is impressive. There are some seriously nice harmonic progressions going on. On the other, it lacks soul - sounds as though it were made using a lot of algorithms and cliche' conventions and not a lot of... well, er, soul.
A lot of the element sounds are tinny/thin sounding, and don't do any favors to the mix, which felt over-powered, like it was just in my face, without very little subtlety of expression. There was also a clutter to the arrangement that contributed to the mix's "wall of sound". It doesn't breath - it just is.
All of the parts seem to be competing for space rather than contributing to one another. |
