Do you think you have good taste in music? Are you a music snob?
Personally, I like to think I can differentiate between well made, detailed, artistically sound music with a certain "timeless" quality and disposable, single-minded, cheap music. Whether or not I really can is another matter. However, what I listen to and enjoy does not neccessarily follow my tastes on what is "good" and "artistically sound".
For example, I love Alphazone's work, but in reality it's probably horrible disposable crap with very little true musical value or subtlety. Same goes for a lot of commercial house and commercial trance I enjoy.
So, do you make a distinction between music you like and consider "good", and music you like and consider "bad"?
I'm not neccessarily talking about cheesy "guilty pleasures" here either; a completely cheese-free hard trance or plodding minimal techno track might be fun for you to listen to, but they might also be formulaic, undetailed and poorly produced in general. Deadmau5 would be a good example here; his music isn't really cheesy but it's artistically lazy.
I think this is an interesting topic because most people make this disctinction with movies (i.e liking crappy Adam Sandler or Will Ferrell movies despite knowing they're tripe), and yet a lot of people seem to ignore this idea when it comes to music. |

| Honestly I'm more worried that in ten years I'll find everything I like now unbearable to have any hubris about possessing "good taste". |

| All music has it's time and place. Who cares what I think in 10 years, as long as I find pleasure in it now. Music is very subjective, and tastes change rapidly. |

| I think I have several different musical psyches. That's why I can never dedicate myself to one selective range of genres (which I think is stupid anyway). Sometimes I wonder if what I'm listening to at the moment is , but I like what I like. |

I have my own taste, not someone else`s.
Its pretty clear to me though, that the music i like will be percepted as bad to the majority of people. |

i suppose mine is 'experienced' taste compared to someone who may not have been listening to music as intently as i have over the last decade or so.
- and what wotyzoid said is pretty spot on for me as well |

Yes that's a crazy thought. Thinking that I'll have some old harddrive full of edm and only wishing I could figure out how I used to dedicate so much time and get so much enjoyment out of something that simply doesn't do it for me anymore.
Anyways it doesn't seem like anyone has directly answered the original question.
So, do you make a distinction between music you like and consider "good", and music you like and consider "bad"?
Well I've just tried answering this question and deleted what indecisive words I wrote. What I will say is, why would I like music that I consider bad? |

| Yes, I look at my taste in music to be somewhat superior to the avarage radio listener simply because I invest so much more time and effort into it. |

Is there anyone out there that honestly believes their own taste in music is 'bad'?
EDIT: Working without hindsight, I doubt anyone will actually come in here and say what they choose to listen to at the given moment is bad, and they feel that they have horrible taste.
You'll always hear the past tense version: "I had horrible taste in music..." |

There are always guilty pleasures I consider as "bad" even when listening to them but I usually mainly like them because they're too dumb for me to hate.
Other than that, I've always been pretty selective in the music I listen to. One could even call it being somewhat of a musical snob, I guess. I cannot really recall anything I would had listened to in the past that I'd now consider "bad". |

I agree with what you're saying but there is definately some music that I used to listen to that I don't anymore which I'll claim was bad taste, and some that was good taste that I'm simply not interested in anymore. |
