230 5th is horrible. The guy running the place is a dick, always hiring and firing people and lots of drama. Eventually, the drama reaches the patrons and it is unnecessary. A new hotel is being built right now on West Side Highway in the Meatpacking District called the Standard that will have a ridiculous rooftop, but it will obviously be a models & bottles thing.
Prob the only good rooftop parties going on in Manhattan are @ Bar 13, although the sonem parties are kinda weird. Blkmarket are doing really great parties there too. The italoboyz party was all sorts of awesome, im sure a lot of good thing s will happen there this summer.
There's a party tomorrow @ the frying pan that is looking pretty good, here's the info:

I was actually at 230 Fifth on Friday night for a friend's birthday... Nice place but totally not my scene, or music... However, I somehow didn't end up paying for some reason (idk?) and got really lucky. Someone must not have been doing their job at the register or wherever it was that I had to pay. The music sucked but like I said, the place was very nice, great views all around. It's good for a one-time thing to check it out but I doubt I'll go back there again. It beats me why people go to those kinda places week-in and week-out. The door guys were all dicks, not even just to us, but to everyone around us, no matter how hot the girls were or how many they were. One of the "promoters" had to like plead with the door guy to get in, he sounded like a little helpless kid convincing his school principal to let him get out of time-out and go play at recess. My friend and I (we are/were both promoters and know the drill) just looked at each other and shook our heads like wow, this is wack.
Drinks were 10-15$ which for an upscale rooftop big club like that I guess is okay and understandable.. There's places that are tier that are charging 15-20$+... The outdoor area was really cramped, they put too many tables so it's kinda pointless to make it a "rooftop lounge" if like 40 people at their tables can enjoy it, while the other few hundred are packed like sardines and end up trickling down into the indoor room because it's not worth it... The music's not even loud at all, we could barely hear it. It was good indoors though, but just tables, no dancefloor. The poor DJ was so not into it, I could see the pain in his eyes that he had to play Top 40 dance crap; poor kid sold his soul though, I guess, so he kinda deserves the misery lol...
On another note, if you really want a cool outdoor party during the week, check out Hudson Hotel on Mondays every other week (http://www.giantstep.com), it's cool and very nice up there, sometimes really really good DJs come through and best part is it's free! |

yeah i went to 230-fifth last nite for the first time and since i was with a hot girl she just walked right up and we got let in which was a nice touch. the place is really hot and the rooftop is amazing, but the music is whack, they dont want a DJ on the rooftop cause people get "too rowdy" as the bartender told me! WTF is that????
and another downside is that the drinks are at least $13 bucks and they are pretty weak. |

| There is no cover. Just show up early (recommended:4ish 5ish for happy hour. If you go later or for drinks in the evening, be ready to wait in line. |
