If you haven't yet, Adam, get on Half Life 2. Though not as new as some games mentioned here, it's probably the best Single-player FPS I've played in a very long time.

far cry 2 is a good way to flex your pc gaming muscles.
too bad the game sucks.
company of heroes is a good game if you like strategy. 2006 game, but its probably the best RTS game i've played in a long time, same with command and conquer.
and counter-strike source is always good.

A good first person shooter is battlefield 2142. 30 versus 30 games are pretty epic. The best squads use mics and act like swat teams. Each side might have 5-10 squads who all have to coordinate. You'll be hooked the first time you play.
Can't help but recommend supreme commander forged alliance if you ever want to play a tactical/strategic real-time game.
