That track is probably the most simplistic on the album. Listen to Weird on a Monday Night or Receptive and see what you think. |

There's at least some creativity involved in those, and "Anal Cunt" has its shock value. But "Younger Brother"? Seriously! |

Come on. Zen Mechanics is a great name. You've got spirituality meeting technology, quiescence against movement, traditionalism meeting the future. It's like everything psy trance wants to be in two words.
Younger Brother is a rubbish name, and I'm unsure what to think of the track. Sounds like Led Zeppelin on synths. |

There was an interview with Simon Posford where he explained the meaning behind the name. "Younger brother" is a nickname used by the Kogi peoples of South America for western civilization. The tribal peoples are considered "older brother", and the western peoples that appeared in the Americas during the age of imperialism, after the tribes had long existed there, are considered to be the "younger brother". I think the connotation is that the "younger brother" is ignorant and destructive by virtue of its youth. I suppose one can't really blame them for that perception... |

In light of the post above, it's probably not as rubbish as you think. However, my original point was that even if it is a poor name, how is it any worse than any of the other thousands of bland or randomly picked artist names?
I like the name. Irrespective of what it's supposed to mean, the term personifies their music for me. Slightly immature, lacking in concentration and less serious than their other projects.
Listen to some of their tracks. As Ted so aptly put it, they're a less cheesy version of Shpongle. Yes, there are still some typical psychedelic vocal samples there, but they're tastefully used (if that's even possible). The bass lines and melodies are otherwise excellent. |

| The origin is pretty cool, but that meaning is an idiom translated from another language. There's no way you would get those connotations from it without knowing the story. |
