Armin @ Guvernment from a Montreal TAs perspective (me)

What’s up guys... I haven't written anything on this thread for the past 4 days or so, I've been in Toronto for the weekend... Finally got to see one of my best friend who moved to Toronto 3 months ago for a job... anyways, blah blah blah, my weekend was great... I had to go to the Guvernment, and on top of it all, Armin was spinning which was perfect timing... Here’s my review of Guvernment, Armin, and the whole package...

Got to Guvernment at around 1:00 am, and stood in line for about 30 minutes, and when we got to the bouncer at the front, he was carding everybody, young old, you name it he carded... we were 3 to go that night, and I, as well as my other friend, had our ID but the other didn’t, and my friend looks like he’s 28, and the bouncer, thinking all high of himself, not smiling, not saying one word... no id no entrance... ugh, thank god my friend lived about 5 minutes away by car if you boot it to about 150... and thank god the bouncer at least let us cut in when we came back with the id... after standing outside for 30 minutes, getting inside felt like a sauna, it was so packed so hot, my glasses fogged, I thought to myself, where the is the ventilation, then I saw it.. About 10 small fans on a wall, that’s it!!!!! I'm pretty sure its so people would buy more water, s... Anyways, we got in, went straight on the terrace and relaxed there for about 20 minutes, because we had to get out of the dance floor... went back in, and went up the stage (not the DJ booth, there is a stage higher than the dance floor), which made more sense... on the stage I finally took a long look at the entire place, and man, let me tell you, the place kicks ass... imagine a dance floor double the size of millennium club (or triple the size of aria)... with all the people, it was insane... I found a small area to dance, and then finally Armin came on at around 2:30, and the place went nuts... when the DJ would kick in a song, all the lasers and all the lights would be perfect.. the lighting of Guvernment doesn't even come close to what we have here, it is so well done, and from the stage i looked whne the dj kicked in, my god, i had a smile on my face, or an awe looking one... really great... the stage is really close to the DJ booth, and I was able to really take a look at Armin, he was having a great time... As for the sound, it was pretty good, not like Aria, but still not bad... I managed to dance a little but had very little elbow room, but still was able to find a place to dance... let me tell you, I didn’t like the people there too much, only about 5% were there for the right reasons, the rest didn’t belong there... the drugs were flowing, and being passed around like crazy... I had people ask me for coke, e, speed, weed, you name it, and i saw a lot of guys snorting god knows what... everybody was trying to trip out other people, but none of that flying thing where someone is put on someone elses back... people with glow sticks, the really bright ones were giving light shows to so many people... ugh... as for the number of guys and girls, it was about 3 (more like 4) to 1 guy girl ratio... also, the place is filled with Chinese people... I have nothing against them, but man, because of these people, the attitude is flowing, imagine all the gino tough guys we have here at 737 or jet club, thinking they are all that, walking around like they own the room, I hated that... I was able to meet some really cool people though, I made a few friends and found some people from Montreal, although not TAs, I didn’t really look for TAs because I don’t really know any Toronto TAs, but Zing, you should have told me you were there... I would have looked for you... Armins music was very impressive, I didn’t know him that much before (don’t ask me what songs he played), but he had a great set, and he lasted for something like 4 hours, if I’m not mistaken, he left at around 6:30... in the Guvernment, there are something like 4 other rooms (small mind you, but still very nice) that play different music, more chill, different styles, but still pretty good (if I can recall, there’s the air conditioned room, the orange room, the terrace, and I forget the other) anyways... when I got back to the main room, and wanted to dance, it was so hot that I had to take off my shirt, which I was wearing a long sleeve one, don’t ask me why, but I took it off and started dancing with it (I had taken it off other times before), and then all I see in front of me is 2 huge bouncers, for little old me, telling me to put my shirt back on, I was like, WTF???????? It is so hot in there that I (a person that rarely, and I mean rarely, never sweats) was drenched in my own sweat, and even without my shirt sweat beads were running down my face all night... the ventilation in there is total garbage, and you want to hear the best one? I go up to the bouncer that tells me to put my shirt on, and say with this shirt on, and with this music (I couldn’t stop dancing) I will collapse, I will faint… wanna know what he said...??? “Don’t worry, someone will pick you up" I was like WHAT THE ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? It’s a ing health hazard, Jesus Christ!!! Whatever, after 10 minutes I looked around, and didn’t see him, I took it off again... hahaha... bastard... I left at around 6:45 (which was still pretty early by Montreal standards, which seemed odd… but I had to get to my bed, I had to drive home, the whole way, the next day by 2pm...

I got here last night at around 9pm (actually left at 3), and had to wake up today by 6 to go to work, I still haven’t really recovered, but I thought it was worth it... I am posting the only picture I was able to get, but had to pay 10$ for it, some guy was walking around with a camera, expensive, but worth it for the memories (I’m on the far left when looking at it, green glasses)...

Anyways, all in all, I thought the night was pretty good, the place is superb, the people could be better, but still managed to find some cool guys... If I were to compare to Aria, seriously, I thought the place was 10 times better, and i include light and sound, but because the lighting was so good and the sound not that great, it evens out (my rating = 10/10), the people 100 times worse (would be worse than that if not for the few (and i mean 20 out of 2000) cool people I met) (my rating 0.5/10) and the girls were practically non-existent (although a few crazy ass great looking chicks) (my rating = 2/10)... Overall = 9/10...

I think that covers it all...

comments about post..

indeed very strict about the carding thing in Toronto, I remember one wednesday @ Tonic when Timo Maas was spinning that a friend of mine didn't have his cards, and yeah he looks 25+, bouncer didn't even budge. A change of pace from Montreal where you can get in to club dome if your 16 and have a few 16 year old hotties with you.

the ventillation at guv is decent, you just got to be next to that rather huge fan ..

sound is average, been there is been incredible, some other nights I couldn't hear anything for the next 2 days... lighting is indeed excellant.

cracked out asians are a bitch.. they should all be shipped to club Viva (or Asia)..

10$ for a picture = nuts... was that guy a guvernment employee, are they profiting on pictures yet??

finally, about the venue, pretty much any venue is nicer than the bomb shelter that is aria and the warehouse that is sona.. but DON'T change them.. I like them that waay!

I dont think he was a guv employee... just some guy who was able to get a permit to walk around and take pictures of those willing... all guv employees were wearing guv shirts, and he wasn't... but i'm sure the place gets a percentage of what he sells.... he was walking around with a old fashionned camera, that develops the picture on the spot... 10$ is rather expensive, but was worth it... my friends had done it before and for my first time, and on top of it all haven't partied with my buddies in a while... we had to... :)

Was the guy taking pictures an older fellow? Well if it was that guy he does nto work for Guv. He's there every week taking pics..

Yes Guv has very nice lighting, but in my opinion the laser show at VIVA tops even Guvs; you have to wear sunglasses at VIVA..
To get an idea what the light show looks like take a look at their website (it's under development still)
VIVA NIGHTCLUB

As for the heat in Guv, it is utterly ridiculous. I am convinced now more than ever that they do this on purpose so that people buy H2O & freezies.. The girl situation: You have to head upstairs to the Skybar or try hangin in the corner next to the entrance of the Orange room; thats where all the sceners and chick hang out!

Also Guv has a second room which is even bigger than Guv: Kool Haus. The temperature is always perfect in there, sound sucks though, too loud not enough bass and lighting is lacking.

ZING: You were in the booth? Swamper was in there also, for a bit.
