Argh. A couple weeks ago one of my HDs went whack. I wasn't sweating ti because I had literally just backed up all my normalized music on a HD....now I am working on putting it back on my local HD, and now my backup driver is bad!ION!@#*(NFU!N!!!!!
I have lost all the music I got, sorted, and normalized from dec 2008- some point in March....this sucks!!! I bought like 100-150 tracks in Feb alone after getting my severance.
F'n Gosh Damnit, I am gonna have to spend all this time going through all my originals for those months and figure out which ones I went to normalize, adjust the key on again, etc.
I forgot to backup my Mixed In Key database (if that's possible)...I could easily known .
Ignore me. Just had to vent. I just re-installed the Ableton 8 demo in Windows 7 and was gonna prob record an hour mix tonight since it's been awhile and I was about to right before my HDD died a couple weeks ago.....so I'm pissed!! And I don't know anywhere else to let off some steam!!!! |

Maxtors?
I have my ~1.5TB of tracks on a hard drive that i don't even use. I just back it up and then store the drive.
I have been through what you are experience several times because i am constantly seeding therefore the drive is constantly running.
All i have been running since all my crashes are Seagate's and WD's. I haven't had an issue since. I had 2 Maxtors take a crap on me with in weeks of each other. |

Buy Japanese Hard Drives. Never had a problem with Hitachi, they probably focus on reliability because they sell many other products as well, if hard drive fails, consumer might avoid all products made by hard drive maker.
I just backed up all my important music projects last week, just in case.
I wonder if USB drives are good for alternate longterm backup? |

ING MOTHER GOD DAMN ING CHRIST!!!
So there I am, renormalizing some tracks, *POOF* my laptop shuts off. LIke WTF!!! I think I heard the internal HDD I just put in buzzing....but then I repalce it, and I still hear the buzzing. I open the laptop up, and notice ING CONDENSATION....LIke WTF!!!! Or something minor spilled, but I tasted it and it's totally water...and I havent had water and I didn't spill anything on it. Then I notice the buzzing only occurs when I am not using my power supply...but rather just when I'm running on battery, and it's totally coming right from where the CPU sits. WTF!! and when I am only running on batterly, my A/C powerlight on the laptop blinks jjust as fast I hear the buzz.
I think I've f'n shorted out my laptop's motherboard and it's going nuts. I'm gonna leave it opened up and air dry it. GOnna PRAY it works in the morning (I am using an old laptop with no real working USB ports and the firewire port is dad and it's archaic compared to this. It's an HP workstation laptop. Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz with 4GB of RAM, and has been rock solid for me. Damn thing is loaded and like $2,500-3,000 brand new at the time and that was at a discount.
This ing blows. If I have to buy a new laptop (which is basically a necessity considering I might have to live off contract work for awhile, who knows), I'll prob have to spend less than $1,000 and it'll also be out of my car fund....either that, or further delay me getting a ing car.
I went from just being sad to really ing pissed. ":O!@NFUI#@QNF@UI# NBCUI#BC@N#
Hopefully if I to have to buy a new laptop I can buy one pretty barebones and just with a nice CPU and then be able to move the RAM and stuff from this one over to it. ASUS has them, but I dunno if my CPU is dead too. If I have to buy a system, will prob be a Sager Notebook from a reseller in NEvada to avoid tax. :p
I was planning on waiting until later this year to buy a laptop with the mobile i7 processor. PISSED. |

Ugh,
Laptop still dead.
Guess I am gonnna be forced to buy a new one.
Prob gonna be a Clevo-based laptop. Was thinking Sager (www.sagernotebook.com -- though with a reseller out of state to save on sales tax), but looking at others...
Can get a pretty damn good laptop for $1,000. Dells are actually super cheap now when you get to the mower powerful setups, but that exta few hundred bucks saved will help me bigtime. Plus the Clevo-based ones tends to have lots of extras like SATA port, HDMI port standard, etc etc... |

Whew. I was literally just about to buy my laptop after my laptop still wasn't working after I beat it to death an hour ago, but for some reason I took one last look at the laptop that crapped on me, started wiggling everything I could under the keyboard again, started making sure all the parts were clean, and whala, it just booted up out of nowhere lol.
I think condensation caused it. I noticed the protector plastic under the keyboard wasn't even sticking anymore because condensation had crept in.
Now I can get some sleep (have literally been up all night trying to figure out exactly what machine I was gonna buy and where from).
But if condensation caused it, it'll prob happen again. Living room gets hella humid whenever we cook. That said, still saving me a grand for the time being. If I can just last until the Intel i7 mobile CPUs come out, I'll be so damn happy. Though I'm now reading they are 2010, instead of later this year. Bummed. I want my 6 core laptop. :( |

Are you even aware of who Hitachi Storage Division is? That would be the former IBM Storage Division. The same company that had a MASSIVE epidemic failure rate in teh 75GXP series drives. This is what got IBM a bad rap in the storage game. |

Ahhh, the deskstar (aka deathstar).
Dave, you might want to stop rubbing a baloon on your head everytime you use the computer and switch off your electromagnetic pulse emitter when typing :D |
