In all honesty, I've only had great times there. There are stories about every club in NYC. Mine happen to all end with me walking out happy :) |

I was at Shine as well to see them... AWESOME set, probably my favorite of the WMC. Seaman was really impressive, brought so much energy. I'm thinking about going to this but... Pacha :( |

Here is an interview we had with Randall Jones:
Hi Randall How are you doing today?
EXCELLENT!!!
Can you give us some background on yourself? Where do you currently reside and how you got into electronic dance music?
I LIVE IN HOUSTON. I GREW UP HERE IN THE LATE EIGHTIES/EARLY NINETIES GOING TO NIGHTCLUBS THAT WERE PLAYING A DOPE COMBO OF HOUSE, DANCEHALL, HIPHOP, FREESTYLE , NEW WAVE, INDUSTRIAL ETC...LISTENING TO THE DJS AND WATCHING THE FLOW OF THE VIBE.
IN 1992 I MOVED TO PHILLY TO CONTINUE THE STUDY OF THE ART.
I MOVED TO NYC FOR A FEW YEARS IN THE EARLY PART OF THIS DECADE AND MOVED
BACK TO HTOWN IN 2004.
When did you first start djing and producing?
I'VE BEEN DJING SINCE BUYING MY FIRST SET OF 1200S IN 1992. I DJED IN MY ROOM
FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS BEFORE I HAD THE BALLS TO GET OUT INTO THE CLUBS. BACK THEN
THO, YOU HAD TO MIX WITH TURNTABLES...THERE WEREN'T ANY MAGICAL PROGRAMS THAT
MATCHED THE BEATS FOR YOU SO IT WAS HARDER TO PLAY AND MIX WELL IN THE CLUBS.
What would you consider your “big break”?
I GOT MY FIRST BREAK THROUGH TWO SETS OF EVENTS. FIRST WAS BEING A RESIDENT
FOR SCOTTO'S PARTIES IN THE MID NINETIES IN NYC AT CLUBS LIKE THE TUNNEL, TWILO,
PALLADIUM AND VINYL. THERE I LEARNED HOW TO REALLY ROCK FLOORS.
THE SECOND WAS HOOKING UP WITH KING BRITT AND JOSH WINK
IN PHILLY AND THEIR SUBSEQUENT INTRO TO THE GUY WHO TAUGHT ME HOW TO MAKE
RECORDS, JOHN WICKS. AFTER THAT, MY CREW AND I SIGNED OUR FIRST RECORD
TO MR.C'S ENDRECORDINGS AND IT WAS ON AFTER THAT. DIGWEED CAME CALLING FOR
BEDROCK AND I DID A LOT OF WORK WITH HIM....HOOJ, WORKING WITH GUYS LIKE CHRIS SCOTT...
I HAVE HAD A LOT OF BREAKS AND OPPURTUNITIES, AND I'M FORTUNATE FOR THAT.
What are some of you proudest accomplishments?
BEING ABLE TO HAVE A POSITIVE INFLUENCE ON PEOPLES LIVES THROUGH MUSIC.
THIS MUSIC MAKES PEOPLE HAPPY AND I'M VERY BLESSED TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE
HAPPINESS TO PEOPLE.
What projects are you currently working on?
JUST DID A REMIX FOR SEAMAN'S AUDIOTHERAPY LABEL, ALSO FINISHED A REMIX FOR MUZIKJUNKI
OF PLEASE YOU, COMING ON SANDER'S LITTLEMOUNTAIN LABEL. I'M CURRENTLY WORKING
ON A REMIX FOR SULTAN & NED SHEPARD'S HAREM LABEL. I'VE GOT A COUPLE OF SINGLES,
LEADING UP TO AN ALBUM COMING ON UK'S FAMED LOW PRESSINGS LABEL.
DOING LOTS OF TOURING RIGHT NOW AS WELL...HEADING TO SOUTH AMERICA THIS WEEK AND
THEN ONTO EAST COAST WITH EUROPE LATE IN THE SUMMER.
Anything else to say to the people of NYC for your May 22nd gig at Pacha?
I AM SUPREMELY STOKED TO BE COMING UP AND SPENDING A NIGHT WITH YOU GUYS.
NYC ROCKS AND IT IS AN HONOR FOR ME TO SHARE SOME VIBES WITH YOU. |
