pioneer or A&H for laptop mixing

| I want to start exploring mixing with laptop....i have a djm-700, but im hearing that A&H are better for this....can anyone give me some reasons why one would be better then the other....i would consider somehow trading my mixer and some extra cash for a xone....if I could find a deal |

I don't think there's much of difference from the laptop perspective. If anything, if you're going digital you might as well use a digital mixer with limited but some midi controls like the 700. |

| Using a specific mixer when using a typical DJ software (ie. Serato, Traktor, Torq, etc...) on a laptop is irrelivant, because you still use the decks to control the mp3 like you would if you were spinning a normal record or cd.... the only time it would matter is if you are using something that can be midi controlled, like Ableton. |

| If you were using Ableton and wanted to have your mixer do all the midi controlling then you would probably want a A&H 3D, 4D, or any other mixer that was highly compatible with midi interfaces - you would have to do the research on that because im a Traktor guy... makes more sense to me, lol. However, if you are a pioneer fan like myself (can't stand the A&H) you could always invest in a decent midi controller which could then be used with any mixer of your choice regardless of make. Then again, you could always just your laptop as the controller and go straight into you mixer, i think... the choice is yours, lol. |

| im currently using a djm700 as a midi controller with ableton..honestly...its an expensive midi controller. lol. if you were to go the ableton route, there are better options for a mixer-type midi controller...one reason im wanting to get rid of my djm700 and scale down. |

With Traktor you have a control box, time coded cds, and your laptop. The laptop plugs into your control which then plugs into both your cdjs and mixer. The time coded cds go into you cdjs which sends a signal to the control box, is translated, and then sent to your laptop which inturprets what is happening with the cdjs; mixer is used as normal. So in other words, everythings is the exact same as using normal cds, however, you now store your music via the laptop and have the added benefits of Traktor (ie: efx, 4 DECKS!!!, etc...), not to mention you could always use Traktor's internal mixer and just run every with only laptop, sorta like ableton.
Traktor = you can still use cdjs or interally and still manually have to beat match
Ableton = its all done internally and you no longer have to beat match once you set up you songs
Best way I can explain it... since ive only used ableton a hand full of times |
