Haha, that's called Korsakoff syndrome. Typical of alcoholics.

No, it's not. See, that's why you're just a nurse.

I never knew either of my grandfathers because they both died before my first birthday. I have a soft spot for old geezers because of this- even irrational cranky ones.

My one grandma came over to Canada with us when we moved from Poland. She was awesome. Whenever I was sad she would take out her dentures and make faces at me until I was crying from laughter. She died when I was in high school.

My only living grandma lives in Poland. Normally I call her all the time, but recently I have neglected to because of school, work etc. Two days ago she told me that when she dies she's going to haunt me because of this :stongue: I love her. Can't wait to see her.

Perhaps typical is the wrong word...but lots of long time alcoholics DO have Korsakoff syndrome.

Lol, just a nurse. Right. :stongue:

I wasn't saying alcoholics don't have Wernicke-Korsakoff, but that the text you quoted didn't give a single diagnostic criteria for that.

Paternal Grandpa got injured in 48 by the Israelis and lost alot of his men, he died before I was born along with my paternal Grandma. pretty sure he had other mistresses.

With my mother's mom passing away when I was just a kid, I only know my maternal grandpa. What can I say, his world view was so racist/misogynistic/homopohobic that i was like:wtf: . He had some pretty badass kurdish gear that he rocked with pride, he was a proud Kurdish Nationalist. He said he was holding on for Saddam's regime to collapse, and consequently died in early 2004.

17: I had a good laugh at that image of ur gp with the headphones. Imagine the day he finally realized you could setup such a scenario :stongue:

Making up elaborate stories is actually one the main symptom, as Korsakoff syndrome is a disease of the memory. You ever met anybody with it? Cause I've met several.

yea my nana pretty much talks out her ass and has a completely different memory of her mothering days than my mom does. it's kinda sad. i mean we all love her and she's been sober for ever now, but when she starts with the stories, my mom gets really irritated with her.

my aunt has grand mal seizures because of her drinking when she was pregnant too.

she was just pissed that my grandpa took a job in florida and moved her from nyc where she wanted to be an actress:rolleyes: she's a ing brat really lol

I've only had one grandmother my whole life (my moms mom) I am her favorite and she spoils me with whatever I ask. Her husband passed away when I was around 3 although I can still remember it like it was yesterday. I was also his favorite and I was constantly in his office playing while he worked he wouldn't allow anyone but me in his office :( My dads side of his family cut him off after the second time he went to jail. I don't really know all the specifics still but we have talked to that side of the family in years. It sucks really bad cause that side of the family is mad loaded :toothless but them. For one of my bdays my dads dad sent me a ring with like diamonds and emeralds. My mom sent it back. I was pissed about it then but I understand now.

Haha, this totally sounds like the main idea for a VC Andrews story. Except add incest.

NO I NEVER READ ANY VC ANDREWS STORIES.

Yes, I have.
And that kind of delusion is in no way typical. First, there is no sign of a malfunctioning short term memory, and the patients I've met were able to recall the past quite clearly. Secondly, Slylee refers to her weirdness while she was drinking. If she had Wernicke back then it would show severe symptoms today, but no word of that.

And you know, it's pretty ty the way most people abandon their parents/grandparents when they become "too much" to care for. I've worked at my job for 2 years now, and I've never SEEN or even HEARD FROM some of these people's families. It's ing sad, really.
