You guys are lucky to have Kennedy in your back garden, do you see launches from all over the area or is it all pretty localised?
I went here to compare FL with the UK where I am and FL is a bit smaller in width to FL so was wondering what you could see...
Could imagine being at an outdoor party and boom, a space shuttle flys over your head :O

I wish...at least here in MIA, we dont get to see the blast off like that, maybe a spark in the sky going up..
But yeh, that would be an experience

They are pretty much localized to the central stretch of Central FL. You have to remember, it's a pretty long state. You can see it going up on the central part of the west coast (Kennedy is on the east) if its clear enough. Daytime launches aren't really spectacular. Night launches are pretty cool though.. Here is a night launch from my house in Orlando:
What was really sweet.. I was at an outdoor rave once when Haley's comet was overhead the DJ stage behind a 100Kwatt wall of speakers.

we see it all the time all the way out here in tampa/st pete area. my uncle in venice/sarasota even can see it. last time i saw it it was right before the sunset like 7pm and you could see the booster rockets fall off and go their seperate ways.
also whats really fun is living in the orlando area, you can feel the sonic booms when it comes in to land. i remember when i was 12 years old, i was loading the dishwasher with dirty dishes in the morning and it was the loudest collosal 3-4 booms ive ever heard. all the dishes in the dishwasher rattled and clanged around, the sliding glass door to the back patio looked like an invisible man ran into the door a couple times, car alarms in the neighborhood going off. it sounds like a giant fat man is jumping up and down stomping on the ground, you dont just hear it you feel the vibration. but that was in the 80's, i dont think it flys back in FL anymore right?

I forgot about the sonic booms. There are usually two of them. If the shuttle comes in over land it causes all of my windows to flex (I have alot ofem :D). The shuttle lands in FL unless there is a problem and it lands in California. The last time it landed it came in over water, so there wasn't much of a sonic boom. The first time I heard it was when i lived in CA and there was an emergency landing, no one had any idea it was landing in CA so everyone in my office jumped up and though a building exploded :stongue:

couldnt remember if it was 2 or 3 booms. guess it was 2. was so long ago. i will say this, it scares the living crap out of most people when it happens. when you see glass windows and glass sliding doors wobble like that, and that SOUND. the sound is so deep and dark and massive, sounds like the end of the world is upon us, like something from the movie war of the worlds (the one with tom cruise).
the people in this video should have been playing with glow sticks to epic techno during this moment:

Yep. My sliding door weighs 200lbs and it jumped twice! :eyes: It would be great to record if you had the right microphone, you just wouldn't be able to pick up the massive amount of sound pressure which is the best part.
