I would recommend steering clear of Dell as well .. just yesterday I was reading some whinge about how they'd taken one year (!) to send out a replacement power cord for a laptop.

When I bought my comp I got all the parts from the local computer market, put it together myself. Had absolutely no problems with it.

If ur curious, my specs:
AMD 1800xp
512 megs DDR-RAM
Asus m/board
64meg Asus GeForce2 MX
60 gig 7200rpm Maxtor HDD
Sound Blaster Live 5.1
Sony CD burner
17" monitor
all the other standard stuff...

And that only cost me $1600 Australian (I think thats about $US850)
DJ Chrono
i got my:
p4 1.7 ghz
1024 MB Ram
40 GB hd
16x CD Burner
DVD rom
and everything else (video card, sound card, speakers etc)
for $1,167 USD.

its a decent price, and comes from a reputible (sp?) company.

that's not including my LCD of course.. i got a little ripped off on it, but it still looks nice :stongue:

Dude, that was some good work reading.. I just spent a good 10 minutes reading through that whole thread... I love the story too, entertaining and filled woith emotion. ;) Alienware obviously sucks and cant deal with other than the regular "My monitor doesnt work" problems. ha..

I got my comp in pieces too.. this all for just under 1500:

ABit AT7 Mobo
Athlon XP 2000+
1GB Samsung PC2700 DDR
60GB 7200 WD-Caviar
2x 120GB 7200 WD-Caviar
ABit Siluro Geforce4 Ti4400
Lite-On 16xDVD
Lite-On 40c12x52x CD-RW
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz DSP SC
Antec SX840 Case (EN ROXX, GET ONE!) and 2 extra case fans..

Good ass deal for the I god.. YEAH! Plus my mobo is rock solid! Great performance and stability from a home-made system. Screw companies, thats what I say, they out to make money. Plus customer service is overrated.

Cheers,
Marc

I had the money to spend, and the reason I wanted to buy a comp from a company was because I've built my last 3 computers, and I've had a load of problems that have caused too many headaches to count. So I figured if I got jacked a little, I'd at least get the service and support to counter-balance the money.

So in this case, I got double-ed. Overpriced comp (Could have built it for under 2 grand) and ty service to boot.

At least you can look back at it and laugh. Remember: it's only money. ;)

40 GB hard drive
CD-RW drive
Ethernet connection
56 Kbps modem
LindowsOS operating system (pre-installed)
Monitor is not included

Ummm....... no. Most ppl there know what they are doing (but they aren't organized).

I have an alienware as well, and they aren't a bad company. I read through your whole post and yeah, that does suck. They aren't a very well organized company but they aren't out to screw anyone either.

My alienware is a couple of years old, but I had a problem with it (the motherboard and cpu fried)... it wasn't because I overclocked it (that's one of the stupidest concepts I've ever heard) or because I didn't treat it properly. One day, everything just stopped working. So I called them up and they replaced the parts... no problems here.

that just shows that there's always two sides to the equation to balance out... but it still sucks when it happens...

heh, did you get jacked too Mikey?
