So this is my second attempt at making a dance/house (don't know what genre it fits under) song.
I've been producing for just over a year and I've been discovering genres, and well here I am with this.

Any tips and harsh criticism are welcome!
Thanks!

I used Audition for mixing and Reason for everything else.

Sounds like , commercial danceish stuff , but production needs work.

some parts have good width then others sound too mono and tinny , i think that the hard left pan on the vocals need sorting , needs moving more to the middle.

After the break the kick sounds too 'in the background', needs to be the focus.

but it reminds me of the stuff we got on cd's from holland in the early 2000's , so for me , good job

Thanks for the comments.
I have updated the link above. I fixed those mixing issues as well as other mixing tweaks.

I like the character of the synths somehow. They sound very plastic but thats kinda interesting.

The snare sounds really not good though, it's not the sound but rather the mixing, it stands out in a weird way. Try to blend it a bit with the other percussion, and cut a bit of the lows.

Also, try to add a bit of more groove to the hihats (change the volume of the hits, try a bit of quantization, and pick a better sample). maybe add another hat or percussion element to the groove. It needs more groove.

As an idea, I like this theme. However, as far a finished product goes, you have some work to do. it seems like you have a compressor over all the percussion, which creates a sucking effect, and due to your settings, the kick is completely lost when the snare hits. try tweaking some things, one of which not compressing all the drums together. overall though, i like it!

could i possibly remix this?
that would be fun.

Thank you for all the comments!

I have separate compressors for each type of drum used actually, but drums have always been my weakest point. I see what you guys are saying about the drums though.

I sent you an e-mail Levi

For more information, look up Brooklyn Bounce and DJ Boozywoozy on youtube :p. J/K.. but stuff like this didn't come from Holland early 2000 :p.

back to your track,
first thing comes to my ears:

~ Compression maxes volume, and squeezes every open spot that you should use to let the track breathe. It works on seperate channels, but on the Master, I'd advise very subtle compression.

~ Maxing out your potential lows is really important, on the master channel, CUT everything unaudible (all lower than 40hz). And slightly boost around 80 - 150 hz for a warmer kick.

~ Panning sounds would help you too, not only does it create a 'spacier, bigger' impression of the track, it also keeps 'muddiness' at bay.

Other than that, composing, synthprogramming, layering is just fine, so no lack of musical talent here ;).

Keep it up man!
