This is actualyl more an extension from this thread...

The last month with my $3,000 laptop has been hell. First an HDD dies, then it shuts off on me one night and I can't turn it on for two days before it did literally FIVE MINTUES before buying a new laptop, then my keyboard gives me issues, now I see my latest HDD is giving me fits, and I can't disconnect my A/C adapter without it shutting off on me though it says my batter is 100% full. And my CPU buzzes when I disconnect my A/C adapter too. That said, had my friend who used to repair laptops for a living and he agrees with me...my motherboard is dying..more specifically how the power is carried through it is causing issues.

I was still going to try to hold off, but then Devin slammed the laptop shut today with earbuds sitting on the keyboard. The screen did like it, so tehre are two big black splotches on screen now lol.

So I think it's time to buy a new laptop....I've made some public posts on here when it came to buying thigs in LA and a few people really worked on helping me out (through PM), so I thought I'd try to see if anyone had any major, insanely good laptop/notebook hookups, hehe.

Right now I can get this..

Based on a MSI MS-1651-- like this one becuase it has a full # pad though it's 15.4"

Display: 15.4" 1680x1050 Glossy (min resolution I want)
Graphics: nVidia GeForce 9600m GT 512MB (would prefer something better, but then the price can skyrocket...mainly want it for CUDA based video encoding)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4Ghz w/ 3MB Cache (anything higher usually skyrockets in price, with little improvement...unless it's quadcore mobile CPU,w hich I could REALLY benefit from)
Thermal Help: Artic Sivlvedr 56
RAM: 4GB Cruciial, Corsair, or Kingston DDR2 (would like a DDR3 laptop, but IO got a budget
HDD: 320GB WD Scorio Black 7200rpm w/ freefall sensor
DVD: Standardon Dual-Layer DVDRW you should expect these days.
Memory Card Reader: 4-in-1 (would love a 7-in-1)
Bluetooth (Built in)
Warranty: 1 year
Shiipping: 2nd Day (cheapest this place has)
Source: powernotebooks.com, based out of NV...awesome, awesome support
6-month reseller rating: 100% // Lifetime Rating 9.93 (to give a comparison, the major brands support usually have a 5 or 6 rating)
Sound: 7.1 surround capable build int.
Webcame: 2.0megapixel webcame
eSata: There is a eSATA/USB combo port

Price: $1052 (no tax, includes shipping)

Also could get a similar laptop, but a Clevo based one....differnces

no # pad
GeForce 105M GPU
7-in-1 moemory reader
Sleaker looking
$995 w/ shipping (payment via wiretransfer, which takes 3% off).

No hookups on a new laptop but I'd suggest you rethink using your swamp cooler if you want the next one to stay healthy

Laptops are a tough cookie.. theres barely any margin on them so its hard to get hooked up. Like say if you were going through my work i would only be able to hook it up on open boxes. Online has the best deals for laptops for sure. Ill check and see if my 15% for apple is still running.

Confident the swamp cooler had nothing to do with it. The "whole condensation" thing I thought might've occured was prob just some old liquid spilled on the keyboard and never realized it was there. I just saw the liquid trapped between the keyboard and the protective lining. I never did see it on any internal components.

Motherboards can just go bad in laptops. And I work machines probably harder than anyone here on TA. Well, used to at my old work. I'd have my CPU at 100% load at least 4-6 hours a day strong while encoding. And then still tearing it up doing other things whe not encoding. And it's not like it's the only laptop we use in here. Michelle has one too. And then there's a whole living room full of electronics right near the swamp cooler.

Anyhow, it was probably caused by my other power supply becoming faulty. Actually have been using a different one (I always have two because I always one out over time) to see if it helps, but nada.

I can look on the employee website for a Sony laptop if you want one of those (send me the model number you're interested in).
I know we get an Apple discount too, but I don't remember how much it is.
