i never said it was hard, its just , it feels like when turning the faders and the knobs, it feels like its gonna fall apart and the midi values jumps over the place. i remember i just wanted to smash it into peaces when touching that knob so carefull to get the value i wanted. what a peace of crap lol. and the vocoder function? suddenly all the synth faders and knobs are filter settings of the vocoder, yes it sound horribly good but when ur switching to adjust you synth sound again all the knobs are out of place hahaha. and the two parts? man i hate hardware. knobs with multiple functions is a no-go imo :stongue:

this comment from the post your studiopics thread describes that synth best:

Hi Mikk,

oh ! :eyes:

Your JP-8000 is curved in it plastic chassis? Mine too!
JP-8000 is an original banana synth!!

This problem is very ridiculous! another problem is the clicks in attak

lol
this comment was mine a long time ago..
but I've solved the banana problem... I've made a repair in it's chassis.
Also the attak clicks can be solved by routing a slower attak to the ribbon when filter closes.. I use an expression pedal to control the ribbon so I can play with two hands and without clicks :tongue2

Ok, I think tomorrow I'll post here a tutorial on how to make a repair in JP-8000 chassis (with photos) by yourself and how to tweak the patches and get rid of the clicks... wait

i much prefer a hands on approach personally. But this is due to me starting out many years ago before softsynths were a big thing.

i agree that the JPs knobs and sliders are terrible. I also think that dave smith instruments synths have horrible encoders but it is justified as the sound is top notch!

i like my jp8000 still: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNhtr72r-0I

I love my JP too. She's in hospital at the moment with a faulty ribbon controller, but we're gonna consumate till the early light when she comes home again!

Is the SUPERWAVEP8 still the closest emulator we have for this synth? Are there any patches for other VSTs that emulate some wicked sounds from the JP?

I found this to be much much closer - http://www.rb2k1.com/rrsv2.htm

So much so I sold my JP8080.

Why would it sound cliche? Just because it has a supersaw waveform doesn't mean you have to use it Rank1 style. It's a very flexible waveform and can be used for alot of different types of sounds. Also, it has the feedback osc which is sadly forgotten most of the time.

No, and it never has been. Only to people who haven't used a real JP8k. SuperwaveP8 is crap. Don't even get me started on this terrible synth.
Synth1 is much more similar to the JP8k supersaw.

But synth1 is based on the nord lead :p

yeah i agree, it does feel like when your starting with the default patch, but you have to work hard on it to get what you want.

You can create interesting sounds using two different patches on the lower/upper tiers and the synth set to dual.

I like the JP-8080 a lot.
