I was wondering if some of you guys that use the xone 92, use the volume/eq/crossfader when transitioning songs ? Do you use like a mix of the 3 ? Do you use one more then the other ?
Tony Morello
i use the volume, eq and gains when mixing songs, no matter the mixer, rarely touch the crossfader

I never even touch the crossfader, but no matter what mixer you're using, the eq and gain is a major part of mixing.. why wouldn't you use them?

I know a few members on here who will let you know that they rarely need to use their EQ's..

+1 to what Tony said for me.

So, you have channel 3 selected to xfade (X), and channel 4 selected to xfade (y). You guys keep your crossfader in the middle, and just utilize volume controls ?

Sometimes I see myself dropping the eq's of 1 song, cause the highs etc blend soooo well with the next.

Don't assign the channels you're mixing to the crossfader at all. Then you don't have to worry about keeping it in the middle… ;)

lol this is boggling my mind o_0

lol most older mixers won't let you un-assign the crossfader so you may be stuck with keeping it centered. Mixing with the line faders gives more control but if you're just starting out you should stay with the x-fader and concentrate on your beat matching first.

Ive had all my gear for about a month, I practice 2-3 hrs a day, I can successfully beatmatch I just haven't heard of not using the crossfader/EQ's to transition before :P

Boggling as in it's new to me.

Do you go to parties? Have you seen EDM DJ's mixing?

Go youtube some DJ's. Rarely see them using the crossfader unless they're doing some "tricks."
Tony Morello
if you know how to pick your tracks you'll rarely need to use the eq or you'll only use it slightly, it's when you get clashing sounds from tracks that are too far apart in key is when you need to work the eq

i use the gains like a rotary fader, the channel faders are more of an off/on switch in my case

find a technique that works for you, there's no wrong way to mix, as long as you and your music don't suck you're good to go
