6 months from now around NYE, I am gonna play a game called "I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER" :stongue:
Thank god for family in LA city council. My only regret on Friday was not seeing this coming, I've been hella busy with school related business, I knocked out early with a book in my face. Wah, wah, wahhhh! |

Just to let everybody know, there were no arrests and all the sound equipment and alcohol remained after the cops left. We were rather upset about the whole situation, which is to be expected. We don't know if we were victims of a few well-placed telephone calls to the authorities by our "competitors" or whether we were hit by one of the many seemingly random raids that have tarnished LA's underground scene recently. All we do know is that we did a great job promoting the party, there were many people who showed up early and we had a sizeable line of people waiting to get in when the Fire Marhall and LAPD rolled in.
Dave, Brit and I will go thru the post-mortem process this week and determine whether we want to move forward. We have solid plans in place for a July event already but we have to re-think the venue procurement process. Perhaps we'll go 100% legit? Like I said, some of these details are TBD.
Thanks to the 75 or so of you that showed up early. My sincerest apologies go out to you and those who were en route or planning to attend before the news spread like wildfire. Please don't speculate that this was due to a malicious attack on our event. We're trying to remain positive about all our peers because we know we have something special in this scene, especially in Downtown LA. If we learn of any concrete information that may shed some light on what happened, I will be sure to share that I share those details in this forum.

yeah, i was really excited to throw down. It was a tight little spot and the sound was spot on.
I was happy to see people there, dancing and a good vibe. Sucked that the authorities shut it down. They were nice enough about it though - no hardcore tactics. They were just checking everything and were set up to let us continue, then something changed (I don't know what) and they said we had to close it up. It was a momentary bit of hope... :D
I did a mix in honor of the night (had to get the dj mix fix out of my system somehow), so here it is:

enjoy.

Rob,
Thanks for being such a good sport about things. I know you were excited to play and I was looking forward to your set. We'll figure something out and we'll definitely have you back to play. |

of course! there are just some things you can't do anything about - and one of them is when the authorities put there spotlight on you, you have to go with it and hope they cut you a break.
Next time, next time, It will be good! Let me know what I can do to help as well.
:)

Thanks for the condolences. I take solace in the fact that this would have been an amazing event had the night unfolded as planned. We'll be back in the game soon enough :) |

Sorry to hear about this Brian.
But dude, how were you able to be at two places at the same time since you were at King King too for Jeremy?!
Anyway, one reason maybe, and its just my analysis as a friend, Motion Lounge has never really been "underground enough". Ive actually been there for a local band rock concert 2X(my friend throws it), but normal hours (9pm to 2am), so I know its out there in the open and its near civilation, so to speak. You will need to go deeper to the bowels of Downtown, with map points, etc just to be more safe from the authorities.
All the best. |

I'm just that amazing that I can be in two places at once. BTW, great opening set from Jeremy.
Motion Lounge may not be deep enough into downtown, but I've been to events there in the past that have gone off without a hitch well into the morning hours. However, I did find out after the cops shut us down that they had been raided only a few months prior. Our bad for not looking into that issue beforehand.
We have another event planned for July. I'll post the details if/when they become available. |

Originally, I was bummed about missing this Friday, but now that the event didn't come through, I'm upset for those that attended and the folks at Logistic, but at the same time happy I didn't miss out. Been wanting to see C. Fortier for quite a while -- haven't seen him DJ since his Balance 007 tour @ Monday Night Social Summer of 2005/2006. Missed him @ Compression Summer of '07. Been following Fortier since 2005 - one of my top 5 favorite DJs/producers -- world class artist and DJ. His Compression set that was available on Compression LA's web site is ridiculous - really good stuff. How has it been two years since his last LA gig? Crazy!
Please bring him back soon! |
