Years ago (1997-2000) I used to run the odd rave at university, we all got very mashed and *just* covered our costs with enough for the taxi home.
Now I'm older and a bit wiser so I wanted to put on a small-scale evening where I live in West Oxfordshire.
In the real world, what do dancers expect from an evening?
Would it be to the sort of production values of Torture Garden (minus the fetish thing), or will a big room with a decent P.A and some sharp scans be more the feeling?
As I say, I've run them before, but it's a very different world out there. Sadly now - too much urban stuff, turf wars and really bad attitudes.
I researched the area and found a small venue with a 300+ cap, the P.A is rubbish so I'll need to bring in some professionals and I can rent a decent lighting rig too.
As for DJ's, well, let's say we may need to start small.
What do you lot expect from a night out and what is a fair price to pay?
Maybe you can give me some advice, I'd like to keep this venture as a co-op rather than a cash cow.
Any DJ's too, let me know....

Yea I'd say for a Trance night larger crowds suit its style, a good bar goes down well too. Charge enough to cover things and advertise for a good month everywhere, try and get a good few DJ's in, ask some local bigger DJ's?
