I did exactly this a few years ago.

First of all, 3 days is way too long in Athens. You can see almost all the historical stuff in a day. Halfway through day 2, you'll be itching to get to the islands.

I'm not sure where you're staying in Mykonos, but I stayed at a hotel about a mile's walk from the "downtown" shopping area. Tons of restaurants, bars and clubs there. During the day we shopped and ate, by the afternoon we made our way to Paradise Beach/Club Paradise (you can get here by renting a scooter, which is a must), by night we partied wherever we ended up. It is not a big island, and you can follow the music to the parties. Have a great time! 8 days is a nice long time.

you can do athens in 1 or 2 days, not much to see there beyond the ruins, some good eats and venue club to the south. the city itself is a crowded mess though. mykonos is gorgeous in a commercial way, but you really don't need 8 days there. just make sure you check out cavo paradiso on a good night. sometimes greece gets a sick dj like hernan or satoshi in town, many other nights it's supercheese eurodance music. santorini is the most naturally beautiful island of them all though. i would NOT skip a 2 day excursion to that island... natural volcanic mudbaths, white, red and black sand beaches, and a gorgeous village perched precariously on the edge of sea cliffs with an breathtaking sunset every evening. it's actually the most expensive and sought after location to have a wedding in the world.

Cavo Paradisio is a must.

Good advice above. 8 days is a long time on Mykonos. I would consider taking a few days to visit another island or two. I've never been to Santorini, but it is def up for my next trip.

Been to all except crete. What city(s) in Italy? They have really fast trains making it east to go from city to city.

Athens is whatever. I didn't find anything too exciting there. Too many people in that city.

Mykonos - as indicated at night go to Cavo Paradiso and during the day go to Paradise Beach where that old French porn star has a sock over his penis.

Amsterdam - You smoke and check out really good looking hookers. You will have people following you and offering drugs left and right.

Turkey - Bunch of thieves. If you with a female, tell her to hold her purse tight on her chest and not hanging on the side. Watch out for fake fights where they are just trying to rob people. I even hear they slice pockets so everything falls out of your pocket. Do some shopping in the Grand Bazarr if you are going to Istanbul. (Make sure to haggle your ass off).

Traveling is always fun, but you don't wanna ruin your trip by losing your passport or getting your wallet jacked.

Gypsys roll in groups. A couple girls come rub your back, and the little girls sticks her hand in your pocket...happened to my dad in Rome on the way to the train station. He felt something and I cussed them out! They usual have a male across the street or nearby to protect them and to tell them who to go after.

I actually almost got jacked in Florence. Some guy was following me and my then girlfriend back to our room. Then I had a cell phone clip on my belt, he leaned towards me, cell phone fell down, he grabbed it and ran. I ran after him w/ my sprained ankle for a couple blocks til he dropped it. (my ex thought I was crazy for running after him, I said f that, that was my new Samsung camera phone, if he had a weapon I would've prob laid off. But I wasn't gonna let it go that easy.)

I've been to Athens and Mykonos (my advice above). I visited Rome and some parts of Tuscany a few years ago. It was probably the best eating experience of my life. In Rome, do all of the touristy stuff, even the vatican. To this day, St Peters Basilica is one of the most impressive things I've ever seen. For Amsterdam, I go every year for Thanksgiving -- Club Escape and 13th Floor (in a warehouse) are a couple favorites. I love that city.

Good thing is you are close to many great islands, which are just a boat ride away. Very easy to get around.

Been to Santorini several times and looking forward to my next trip. Is more amazing in person than the pictures.

As far as Mykonos stay close (walking distance) to the main town but not directly in it unless you plan on getting very little sleep. Expensive but so much fun. Eat/drink smart and you'll be fine. I was there for a week and on the way to the airport home I wanted to cry I was having so much fun.

I have always had fun in Athens. Can be hot and crowded but there are some really interesting neighborhoods. Stay as close to the Acropolis/Plaka as possible. The subway is limited but very clean and efficient.

Crete is fantastic but you'll need at least a week or so and a car. Stick to the Cycladic islands if your time is limited or your first trip.

I have not been back since 06 and I am going through withdrawals. Invest in a couple of Greek Island guides. They can help you with the general vibe of each island and what you are looking for. My general rule is to stay as close to the city on the island you choose as possible. That way you can walk to and from easily.

Have a great trip!
