As for the PR, it was non-existent this time around - is an EM by the #1 DJ an obligation? Something to be forgotten about? Look at all the bluster about this EM (rather the lack of it)..there wasn't even a thread here on TA until 5 minutes before it aired.

Mind you, it was a good thing judging by the 2 hours of mediocre I've just endured. Fantastic? Are you joking? Finishing with Blue Fear was just too predictable. As for the first half hour, whatever happened to set flow? *tuts*.

All over it reeked of something that was just slapped together and not something Armin spent a lot of time concentrating on while on his trip for global domination.

Most disappointed, I'd sooner go back to 3am and head off to bed than stay up for what is supposed to the kind of set you can't miss first time around

Can't agree, Armin's set was fantastic comparable to this one from 2006. Ending with Blue Fear predictible? Oh... c'mon predictible is ending set with Burned with Desire, Shivers, Going Wrong and this kind of stuff. Non-stop complaining is more predictible than this.

Maybe I'm not so objective every time, but I know when Armin going wrong, when he's on wrong way. He once again showed why his most popular DJ in the world. Just check introduction by Pete Tong and you will heard why he is so special.

This set has a lot, fresh and new stuff, great mixing skills by Armin, and flow. I have big respect for you m8, but this time it's too much of complainings.

I agree with K4SP4 on this one guys, Armin is muched loved all around the world. He needs to play new and fresh tunes all the time due to fans like us can still feel as if he is moving in the right direction FORWARD. Armin cannot please everyone all the time its impossible in music. In this set i believe he is demonstrating a taster of what trance will be like over the summer.

In order for trance to survive now i feel Armin is trying to broaden his style so there is something for everyone, if you notice DJ's like Above and Beyond are doing this with there Anjunadeep label and also Tiesto's Blackhole has also started to take notice.

Its a hard industry guys to keep everyone happy and not being boring and predictable, all you need to do is pick the best positive bits of the set not the negative and enjoy them.

Thats only my opinion some people might disagree

I was dissapointed with this essential mix. It started out good for about 20 min, then dropped right into his poppy vocal trance stuff that he hammers on ASOT week after week. The purpose of the essential mix is to create a mix of present, past and future tunes, and present them in a manner where it sounds amazing, and unique. As with most of his sets, past tracks are a joke. He only plays new stuff, 75% of the time with horrid pop love vocals. to the poster who mentioned that armin needs to think about his old fans, that is so true.. and the essential mix is a way he could of done that. But it seems he doesnt care, and just wants to play his vocal trance. If you look at most essential mixes they have very amazing mixing, track selection, and a few classics that when all put together make a set you want to listen to over and over. Not the case here. It really makes me sad because since he's the #1 DJ, all the aspiring new producers of trance are all making stuff that fits his style, which is in turn totally changing the direction of trance to pop vocal stuff. Ive seen him live a few times, back in the day, and glad I got to during his best times. Hearing Blue Fear last did put a smile on my face, because it made me remember how good it all used to be. To any newcomers of trance, you will love this mix probably.

just want to say this is my opinion. some may agree, some may not. were not here to bash each other, but to share our thoughts. so please, to the armin fanboys, dont take this personal!!! :p

armin needs to go back to remixing songs like moogwai - viola. enough of all this pop crap!
