OK, so this song is probably a little too mellow/folksy for most people here, but I thought I'd share it as an extreme example of how differently songs can turn out from what you originally envisioned.
I started this track over a year ago with the intention of the chord progression and melody being the basis for a proghouse track. Then, one day I decided to mellow it out a bit and turn it into a solo piano piece. Then, I started working with Sara on some chillout ideas and, when she heard this, she asked if she could try writing lyrics for it. She used the piano melody that I had written for the verses and choruses, so I asked my friend Janet to redo the piano for me during the verses and choruses and she added the piano solo in the middle. Then, I added the cello to finish it off.
BTW, the tempo is 130bpm, so if you can imagine a 4/floor drum pattern behind this, synths replacing the piano, and different lyrics, you might get a sense of where this was originally heading.
