Phenomenal Woman

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

whatever. there's nothing to "GET" about poetry.

and if there IS something to get about it, its just the poet's way of being a douchebag and giving the reader a runaround of what they're really trying to say.

kinda like when you ask a chick "what's wrong" and she says "oh, nothing"

the poet camouflages the message so only those who can relate will be able to acknowledge it.

my post right there can be considered poetry. ing beautiful woo wooooo woooo

That was really bad.

No accounting for taste I guess.

Yup.

A random collection of adjectives and pronouns doesn't make a poem.

As a rule I don't like poetry much, though I have studied it a few times. For me, poetry is like art: I can't name any specific names, but I know what I like. I'm more interested in prose.

When my Grandma was alive she used to recite this and I've always liked it:

When you get what you want in your struggle for self,
And the world makes you King for a day,
Then go to the mirror and look at yourself
And see what that man has to say.

For it isn't a man's father, mother or wife
Whose judgment upon him must pass,
The fellow whose verdict counts most in life
Is the man staring back from the glass.

He's the fellow to please, never mind all the rest.
For he's with you clear up to the end,
And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the man in the glass is your friend.

You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartache and tears
If you've cheated the man in the glass.

poems are dumb. So you can rhyme, big deal. Can you flow? Can you make the club bump with your insightful thoughts? No, you can't, you couldn't, and you never will. This was the biggest problem I had with Dante's Divine Comedy. You're sitting there in class with the assignment to interpret the glorious nature of the art, yet you're dumbfounded by the lack of a decent stereo system to rap to. It doesn't sound like an acapella and there were no instructions on how to properly apply it to a real work of art. All it does is rhyme. Poetry, yeah, 50 Cent must be among the ranks of the greatest poets in history.

this...:haha:

Half the time, I don't even know what the the poet is talking about. Example, Shakespeare. When we had to read this in high school, we always waited for the teacher to tell us what the bloody he was talking about.
MrJiveBoJingles
Shakespeare requires a greater attention span than that of a goldfish, making him meaningless to most of today's mentally stunted generation.
