Hmm.. Id actually be curious to see what stops people because I CAN NOT for the life of me go even 2 days w/out producing.
I think in 6 years the most I've ever taken off was 6 weeks but that was when my laptop broke and I bought a desktop.
I don't think I realized either when I first started that I'd be a "lifer" with producing, but if I miss even one day, it actually starts to affect my mood. I get angry, bored, literally feel like I'm not being productive (even when Im working and going to school full time).
I think some people just have a creative edge they always need to exhaust, kinda like sex for a sex addict or morphine for a junky, making trance has just became a powerful addiction I can't live without.. nor would I ever really want to. |

For me the frustration of not being good enough can make me sick of it. I've been working on a new track and every night last week I put in a few hours and every night i left the computer feeling disheartened and crap. Feels like I'l never get to the level that I will be happy, and then whats the point? That's not fun. I don't have to do it, its not a job, so I wont do it for a few days, but then the urge trickles back and I get stuck into it again.
I have thought about quitting a couple times, but can't bring my self to do it.
I wonder if the better you get the less you get frustrated and the more you enjoy it? 6 years you say Robbie? does it get better? |

You're way too results oriented. You should try to stop thinking about producing as a competitive sport. Learn to accept the reality that you may never become famous (majority of us don't, and there's nothing wrong with that), see if you still like to make music.
No point torturing yourself! Make music if/when you feel like it, and don't if/when you don't feel like it. Nothing wrong with having unfinished projects either, I have at least 3 to every finished one. |

I haven't even started yet and I keep procrastinating! I need to get on the ball. If I am new I should just start with the program first right and no hardware...?
I wouldn't know which monitors to start with so I won't have to upgrade again....? |

The only thing that keeps me going is PROGRESS, as long as i dont get stuck i can go on forever, if im stuck for 10 minutes i move on to next project and so on.
Then its good to have loads of projects to choose from, I have about a 1/4 completion ratio, which is pretty bad.. but then again i do have several hundred projects lying around. |

Yea I am slowly learning to accept this reality. Although I don't care much for fame, but just want to make stuff that I like - which isn't happening.

I can relate to this, I get stuck all the time! I have about 3 tracks going at the moment and I'm stuck on them all!
But to stay on topic, the WANT to make GOOD sound keeps driving me back, and the (growing) appreciation for good tunes! |
