Reaally Bizarre issue in Cubase - Looking for some Help!

Ok, so basically what I'm experiencing is Cubase just shutting down everytime I launch one of the versions of one specific project. I've been working on this thing for months and have like 25 different versions saved, but recently when I launched the latest version, the program just shut down after like 50 seconds into playback.

Two things are particularly strange about this. One, is that before when Cubase would crash on me I would at least get an error screen, but in this case the program just shuts down, no warning, no nothing - i hear stuttering in the speakers and then the window just disappears. Two, when I tried to launch any of the previous versions of this same project, Cubase does the same thing! ugh! So somehow all the previous versions are now as messed up as this last one, wtf?

I've never had this happen to any of my other projects, this is just so bizarre. Any ideas what's going on?

It is very strange that older versions of your project are not opening. I have had this happen to me before in Cubase but it was due to a particular VST that when added more than once in a project would cause the project to not load. My workaround was to just rename the .dll for it in VSTPlugins, open the project, remove the VST, save, then it would open from that point forward. What version are you using? You might try asking this on Cubase.net.

Yup, already did...I'm using the latest Cubase, Cubase 5 that is, and yes, actually the original project was written in the older SX version. But, I have already done a fair amount of work on this project in Cubase 5 before this crashing thing starter happening. So I don't think that switchin to the new DAW version is what's causing the issue.

In fact, I just tried opening the project in the older SX version and same thing happened! this is ridiculous...hopefully Steinberg guys will have some idea what's going on...

Its a plugin that does this. You have to disable every plugin used in that project and then start adding one by one until you find the faulty plugin.
Or you can look for hints in the project of which plugin may cause the crash, disable and test.

yup, probably one of the plugins. gotta remove the .dlls one by one till u find it.

when you say "plug-in" are you referring to VSTs (e.g. Battery) or insert effects (e.g. Waves) or both?

thanks for the suggestions, btw

Have you checked your computer's event log for errors? (I'm assuming this is Windows Cubase, not Mac)

Because it's Cubase, I'm inclined to agree that it's a plugin. If it were happening with any other program, I'd say that the most common cause of mysterious shutdowns with no visible errors is defective or insufficient memory. Often a simple reboot will solve this. Are you running low on system resources?

Had this problem before with NI Massive, if you have Massive check the standalone version and see if it shuts down when you you load it up. If So do this

C:\Documents and Settings\****\Local Settings\Application Data\Native Instruments\Massive

and delete the Db File in there.

Should work now.
