Hi
I was just wondering what kind of equipment do you use and what equipment is best to record vinyl to your pc in mp3 format?
Personally I connect a MD recorder to my Mixer and record the vinyl on to the mini-disc, then I plug the MD in to my Pc and uses creative recorder to record from the line in on my sound card.
Then I edit the wave file using Creative Wave Studio, and encodes the wave file into .mp3 using Cd-Ex with Frauenhofer Radium Codec :)
Feel free to reveal your methods of recording :D :D

why not just plug your vinyl player, or mixer directly into your pc and skip the whole MD step? seems like kind of a waste, plus, if you're not using the optical input on your MD, you'll probably get TONS of sound degradation. THEN the sound quality will be further diminished when you go from MD to PC, since its analogue recording (again, =P).

find an rca -> little stero jack cable to put into your sound card, that'd probably be the fastest way.

as for encoding, i use lame v3.92, VBR. i know this had probably been debated to death, but i think VBR is AWESOME.

you should be able to find a variety of rca cables at any electronics store. you can get a cheap set for like $5-10 CDN (don't know conversion).

haha.. no man.. i don't think that's it... i GUESS you could use that thing, but it just seems like fancy hardware for harcdcore vinyl preservation.

now that i read my old post, forget what i said.. i'm an idiot...

what you need is an rca converting plug... it has 2 holes on one side (red and white) and one of those little stereo jacks on the other. you plug your record player's red and white plugs into the proper holes, and the stereo jack goes into the line in on your soundcard.

if you're going from a mixer to your soundcard, THEN you'll need an rca->stereo jack, cable... the one i mentioned in my last post.
