I would bet most amateurs these days don't have any hardware synthesizers, much less a " load."

for example:
a software emulated 303 will not sound the same as a hardware Roland TB-303. Most professional musicians agree on this.

There is something different about using hardware. I got my first hardware synth (Moog Little Phatty) about a month ago and have been making most of my sounds with it since then, and it just feels a lot different -- and better -- to use rather than clicking around on a screen. I was software-only for years, I have two sequencers and loads of VSTs, but now I sometimes find myself wishing for a hardware-only studio, including hardware sequencers and everything, even if it would be harder to set up and way more expensive. It's so much more fun handling actual boxes and dials instead of a mouse and keyboard. Not even a MIDI controller can really substitute for me. People have so many tools now that are so easy to use but I don't think the music has gotten any better for it at all.

I love the percs/buildups/melodies. Trance can cover so many different sounds, although I think this site is about all EDM really because the lines blur between all EDM genere's - and thats the magic.
Another reason I think is that an old tune can be completley brought back to life to match the current style every couple of years with a new sound technique/creative angle and this is one aspect of Trance/EDM that is amazing.

Many amateurs started cheap, probably still do. Nothing wrong with that.
Some will buy better equipment lateron when they can afford it, just to increase quality and fun of making tracks. My friend Lisaya prefers his Roland over his Korg and the other way around for some instruments. He can hear the difference. He bought a lot of hardware lately to get a more professional sound.

I totally agree. And techno is way more repetitive imo... but I do enjoy it occasionally.
It seems as if everyone starts out liking trance and then they sort of "graduate" to progressive house and um, minimal.
I started out liking trance when I was 14 and at 22, it's still my favorite. Obviously, trance has changed over the years, and some of the big names in trance aren't as great as they used to be (I guess they make too much money to make the effort--so they hire singers to cover up their mediocre productions; I really duno, it's quite disappointing). But there are still lots of good stuff, though it is a bit different.
I do like most genres of EDM, even a little bit of minimal (the only genre I really dislike is probably happy hardcore lol). But I like dancing to >130 bpm, I love the chills I get, I loveee the melodies.

I agree with everything said here,
lve listened to trance since l was 12 and lm 25 now and still do, we called trance "dream trance" back then ie. dj Dado, Robert Miles etc although, l listen to progressive and inimal as well these days, trance is the only my favourite genre regardless all the criticism it gets...l love beautiful melodies, it relaxes me, and l dont find it in any other EDM genre, but trance fulfills all my needs in this regard
